Exclamation Where is this shaking coming from?

Alright, there car does not shake all the time but only randomly around 80 mph or so. It is more in the steering wheel which feels like a shudder and vibrations. However, it seems to go away when I let off the throttle and it either comes back or it doesn't when I get back on it. At wot or high speeds (140mph) I don't experience anything. It's weird, I am not sure if this is alignment or balancing because its not happening constantly. I also don't believe its a flat spot for the same reason. What the hell could it be?

**Note** I haven't driving the car in a year and a half and the whole subframe has been droppped , motor rebuilt, etc. so it could be something loose possibly. For example, just the other day I was hearing this loud metal on metal sound like I had no brakes. Come to find out the screws on the front Brembo were gone. The caliper was literally hitting the wheel. Thank god we caught it because I would have been pissed if I lost the brakes or TE37's.

Anyways, I appreciate any help or ideas.

I'm no expert, but I had a similar experience with a 2.5 Impreza. The cause (I was told) was an ever so slightly bent rim. @ ~70mph it just vibrated the crap out of the steering wheel. Everything else was butter. Just my experience.

Damn, and it didn't vibrate all of the time? Even at like 80mph mine doesn't even do it all of the time. It's really weird... I hope I didn't bend a TE37 or ill shoot myself. I just got the car back and it hasn't been driven for 1.5 yrs so I don't think one is bent.... (could be wrong)

I went to Goodyear to see if they could do the alignment and balance but they wouldn't put my car on the lift wtf.

Like I said before, I am not an expert. With my slightly bent rim though it happened EVERY time ~70mph. This very well could not be your problem. I only said it because you said it transfered straight up to the steering wheel. BTW why wouldn't they put your car on a lift?

Yeah, sounds like mine except for it happening every time. I appreciate your input though. No idea haha the dude was just like we are not set up to lift this car or some lame *** excuse. They had a full shop of lifts, alignment racks, etc so maybe it was better they didn't touch my car haha.

Which ever brembo came loose I would definitely inspect for internal damage. If you do find damage please do not kill yourself, but if you do please leave FS info with your benifactors.

Curious about this too. I get the same steering feeling at around 70-80 and it feels like it's kind of pulling back and forth.

No idea what it could be from.

I was going to lean towards wheel balancing too...esp since the brake that came loose was on the front. It could have knocked wheel weights off if it hit the inside of the rim. I had this problem with my dads truck...rear caliper lost a bolt and was rubbing on the rim. Or you could just drive 140 mph everywhere lol

Yeah those are both things I didn't really consider and make complete sense when thinking about it. I will get them balanced and keep everyone posted. Thanks everyone!
