I became a victim of the Evo X clutch master cylinder. It completely blew apart. I was able to order and install a SSP master cylinder. It looks great and I'm sure it will work, but I have a little problem with it. The ball socket that attaches to the clutch pedal is too large. When the pedal is pushed all the way down, the ball socket hits the joint where the pedal spring is attached. Has any one else had this problem?

Here is the ssp unit.

The ball socket at the end is so big that you have to take it off to get the round nut off. Then trying to reinstall it under the dash is a nightmare. The after the nightmare, it rubs on the pedal spring bushing.

Any suggestions????

I think the problem is that you are trying to instal an aftermarket part straight out of the box. Ussually a part that size requires a 1/2 hour with a die grinder to ensure proper fit and function. What kind of part is that again?

Isn't the ssp unit the one everyone uses? Keep us posted on what your planning to do to make it work. I was actually going to pick this unit up aswell when the time comes.

 

Ssp is the one that most have or had issues with.

 

I did some adjustment on the pedal height and bled the system again. That helped some. The rubbing is actually taking place at the clutch pedal mounting plate. I'll try to get a picture of it soon. I have read some good and bad about the ssp cmc. I'm still keeping and open mind about it. I went this route so I could do the installation without taking the brake booster out and grinding out the studs. I still have a little too much free play at the top of the pedal movement. More than I'd like to have anyway. I thought the bleeding would take care of that, but it didn't.

 

Here is a quick update. I adjust the position of the entire cyclinder a little made sure the large ring nut was very tight. I was able to get it tighter than I had it before by pulling on the pedal while I tightened the nut. That seems to have taken care of all the rubbing issues I had.

There is still a little more free movement of the pedal before it starts to push the slave cyclinder than I would like. But, I must be getting used to it. I don't really notice it anymore.

Overall, I'm very happy with the setup.

 

Which ssp cmc you get? version 1, 2 or 3?

 

Version 3. The latest and greatest. No problems. Still not sure I have it bled correctly, but its working nicely.

 

I guess I should save to get Version 3...

 

Just installed the ssp cmc last week. Now it's losing pressure, unless I pump the clutch pedal. And to top it off there is a little leak on the inside. Disappointed in the product and unresponsive company.

 

which of the CMC of all is the best? they recommend or know, AMS, SSP or Magnus?

 

AMS, Magnus, and MAP all make nice CMC kits, just make sure you get the actual OEM Mitsu Evo IX CMC. I wouldn't touch a SSP due to all the issues people have had with all three versions.
