Exhaust help needed, the choices are killing me!
I'm looking for a new exhaust. Something on the low end of the $$$ spectrum. Doesn't really matter if it's single or double exit. Full 3" is important, as my test pipe is 3". Quiet is better but loud is best. Ive been thinking Magnaflow fits my criteria. HKS high power single is looking good, but does it have full 3" pipe w/o necking down? The Buscher kits look nice but I have no experience with their parts. What other kits should I be looking at? I have my heart set on buying an AMS downpipe and I really don't want to fork out more than $700 for a cat back.
CNT or Megan either Drift (single) or their OEM (Dual)
Both are around the $550 range. The Megan Drift has by far the straightest piping out of any 3" exhaust I've seen for the Evo X's.

There's a reason exhaust systems have bends in them, it's to clear the driveline and suspension parts. You decide: gain a half-horsepower with cheap straight pipes and live with the clunking and vibration noises?
invidia's N1 exhaust can be had for under 500 and I believe they are 3 inch all the way through with no necking down at the flange.
Good thing you said loud is best because that sucker definitely will make some noise especially if you ditch the stock cat.

That maybe true with other cars but the only major component needed to clear on the Evo is the rear diff, and there is no reason to have a excessive amount of bends to clear it or make it overly complicated. To add I never had one clunk or vibration problem with the Megan Drift or the CNT.

These dont make your $700 limit, but that's what I would get:

I was always pleased in the past with turbo xs, especially when one considers the price. I was always impressed with the quality as well. Only thing is my previous car had a turbo back from XS and I love trying out new gear so that kills the deal. Fitment is key, b/c my welder is at my dads place and he'll have a caniption if he sees me modifying this car. He's old, and unpleasant. Ive always considered exhaust to be a wear item, like brake pads, or a clutch. Once the sound has worn into your brain it's time for something fresh, new, and exciting. I would LOVE to try out the MXP kit, or the Amuse xtra Titan but I can't justify the extra $$$, which pays for that AMS downpipe. So far CNT is looking good, but I'm open to anything.
didn't really think anyone would still recommend the ETS dual exhaust at this point. However the fact that the OP is asking for something extremely loud, that would seem like the best choice $$$ and sound. Quick question, how you consider doing a custom exhaust at a good reputable muffler shop?
It would probably be cheaper to get something custom made. I was just thinking about how a flow master delta 40 would sound on a 2.0 turbo. Probably not as tough as a 5.0. Also, no shops around here do really good work & it's all crush bent.
I wouldn't recommend the flowmaster delta 40. It's a 2 chamber muffler which uses different diverters and baffles in order to kill sound. That also adds excessive backpressure and slows spool.
I'm getting my exhaust made by RRE and they use magnaflow mufflers for this reason. Magnaflows are straight through and help your turbo make more power by reducing backpressure thus helping with spool.
I've only ever used flowmaster on NA cars for that reason. However, the oem muffler is closer in design to the flowmaster than the magnaflow. So that got me thinking if I've ever heard flows on a turbo car, don't think I have. It might sound like crap. I don't think spool/performance will suffer though. Stock turbo into a 3 or 3.5 inch 40 series shouldn't have any significant back pressure. I doubt I'll do it though, just easier to bolt up a kit, ya know?
If you look at the link I posted you will notice that ETS has 3 versions of the dual exit CB: wild, medium and mild. Personally I have a AMS Cast downpipe, Cobb HFC and CB and it's perfect.
