Garret gtx 3071r

Why is nobody using this turbo for the evo x? Dual ball bearing, fully constructed, (not reusing the oem housing) and very promising. what kind of spool up, power performance can i expect?

Most of the kits we sell are in T3 form (not using the oem housing, due to excess back pressure)

The GTX3071R is a nice turbo, I have a few subaru guys that use it, the evo guys tend to go with the GTX3076R or GTX3582R depending on power goals.

The GTX3076R we can spool up between 3800-4200rpm depending on cam tuning, etc. The GTX3076R is good for about 500-550whp close to the 30psi mark. Pump gas it's pretty easy to put down 425-450whp.

If you plan on running higher boost on E85 or even on pump gas the 3076R will flow more, it's a higher flowing turbocharger and won't run out of steam like the 3071R which on pump gas will do fine, but once you make the switch in fuel grade or increase the boos pressure above 27-28psi it's going to fall on it's face due to the turbine wheel size.

I believe the 3076R flows around 7-8lbs more.

Hope this helps!

Michael

On the turbo by Garrett website, it states that the turbo is capable of 640 whp...

Edit: The GTX3076R that Michael is talking about ^

Yes, but real world results are always a bit different and that is most likely crank power. But displacement plays a big role as well.

True. They are sick turbos though... I see them all day at work, I work for the company that owns Garrett and these turbos are in and out of the departments getting tested. As far as I know not trying to be biased towards my own company, these turbos are definitely top of their class right now.

I'll be picking one up as soon as I have the funds for sure.

From the compressor flow maps:
GT3071R - 48 lb/min
GT3076R - 54 lb/min
GTX3071R - 57 lb/min
GTX3076R - 64 lb/min

On paper, the GTX3071R will beat out the GT3076R on power and spool. Are you saying the GT3076R still beats out the GTX3071R in the real world on back to back testing?

I'm comparing GTX3071 vs GTX3076

I believe the GTX3071 is better than the old GT3076, but not the GTX3076. I'm going off of customer feedback on these turbochargers.

Thanks for the great response mike! Can you tell me how a GTX3071R and GTX3076R compare to say an FP Green or Red? I really want to keep the turbo as safe for the engine as possible (stock block) and I wanted the quickest spoolup available since I do alot of autocrossing. Hence why I wanted a GTX3071R in the .73 Housing. Through research, I'm told that will be somewhere between a green and a red. Your thoughts?

I will get some results here soon. I am in the process of installing a GTX3071R now. I will start a new discussion and possibly add a link.

Mike, you started off talking about the "GTX3076R" and then the "3076R" and compared it to the 3071R. I can see what you mean though now knowing you were specifically talking about the GTX versions.

0.73 A/R divided housing is small. I have to imagine it is choking the turbine.
