Is my '08 GSR tranny toast?

Wondering if anyone has had this same phenomenon where it pops out of gear by itself.

My '08 GSR has 33k, and it's back from a long-block build 3k miles ago so all the fluids have been changed, including a new clutch. I was driving on the freeway in 5th gear and downshifted to 4th to pass someone. As I got on WOT, revving past 6000 rpm, it popped out of 4th gear by itself. I have duplicated this phenomenon and it's always only in 4th gear somewhere over 6000 rpm. I took it to my shop and when they dumped the old Diaqueen manual transmission fluid, it was like water thin and quite dirty. I can't believe break-in on a new engine for 3000 miles can breakdown the fluid like this. So we replaced the manual transmission fluid with new fluids. They ran out of Diaqueen so Redline MT fluid was used instead to see if the problem would go away. Alas, it's still doing the same thing in 4th gear. Am I looking at a complete rebuild? Can I find another old tranny to swap or is that not recommended? If I rebuild, is there a way to make it stronger or the stock is plenty robust? It's just about stock horsepower and do not do any launches so can't see why else this would be happening. One thing though, ever since the engine was put back in, I have had the ASC off and haven't troubleshooted this yet.

I too am questioning what kind of fluid your shop used during the engine rebuilt process.

So bottomline is I probably have a bad 4th gear now...there was a good amount of metal sludge on the drain plug magnet too. Anyone know how much a manual tranny rebuild would run me? Wow, another big expense for the holidays =(

Thanks for the link Kracka. It's funny that the web site has a video with Jay Leno; I work on the same lot as Jay Leno; but unfortunately I do not the same funds that he has, LOL. It's cool that they have a special foam packing mold specifically for the tranny to be shipped in.

I may be needing service soon as it's starting to feel gummy once in a long time while in 3rd or 4th gear; when I let off the throttle, it feels like I'm braking for a little bit then goes away. Then at times when I give it gas in lower gears, it doesn't feel like it accelerates quite as quickly like something is holding the car back a little. Definitely not a reassuring feeling when any of this happens.
