stage 1,stage 2 cams

hi guys!!! i ahve a question about aftermarket cams!!

stage 1 cams...like cosworth mx1(266/266) does NOT need aftermarket SPRINGS!!....so its pretty much a bolt-on cam.

MY QUESTION IS: ......if i buy a stage 2 cam....kelford 214b's ....gsc stage 2 or AMS TMP'S....

AND I REMAIN WITH THE STOCK REV LIMITER..or like 8000rpm max...

WOULD I REALLY NEED TO PUTT SOME NEWS SPRINGS IN THERE????

.....there is no point for me to go over 8k....at 8k its 125mph(thats what i need to stay in fourth on the drag strip).

.....im asking because theres more power to have from a stage 2 cam. and i dont want to have to buy.....springs...retainers...head gasket..etc etc etc.

and my second question is...why would a stage 2 cam make the car spool slower than a stage 1?? i mean theres more air...getting in...it should spool faster no???

so theres 2 questions out there TKS GUYS !!!!

The cosworth cams in my opnion are a bit more aggresive then what i would call a stage 1 cam like your 214a's. You are actually limited to the stock rev limiter on the cosworth cams(as recommended by Cosworth), 8k is a bit higher then stock. IF you plan to spin to 8k i woud consider springs in any case. The stock springs are simply designed for the lift and ramp style of the stock camshaft. You can push that a little with a larger cam but dont expect to get the most out the cam as you might get valve float.

As for slower spool with higher staged cams, generally you will have more overlap than on the factory cam. The focus on higher lift and longer duration is for higher rpm engine breathing. The lower end of the rpm band is sacrificed in that process. Take a look at some of the camshaft manufactures faq pages. Should find your answers there.
