K&N Typhoon Intake

Hi guys, I just purchased a 13' Mercury Gray GSR and the dealer sells the K&N typhoon intake and I was interested in getting it to lean out the tune, but there are mixed views on installing it without a tune, so i was wondering if it is safe to use without a tune? This dealer is very mod friendly, they will cover me with any mod except a tune because that is out of there hands since Mitsubishi can detect it.
Thanks

That intake won't lean out your tune (this is a good thing) and is safe for use on the stock tune.

Cool thanks. Maybe lean wasn't the right word, more like smoothen it out lol

I'm curious, what year is the car in the link? The 2011's and newer do run leaner than the 2010 and older models, which is something to keep in mind when adding bolt ons without a tune.

Using a tactrix cable and evoscan to tune your car...the dealer cannot detect it. Throw a tune on the car and enjoy it man.

2010, btw the afr was only affected by less the 0.5 and long term fuel trims were perfectly fine. Have a read.

k&n makes good stuff. You could just do a drop-in filter too!

I have helped several friends put intakes on their EVOs and they never had any issues with no tuen on their cars right after the intake (of many makes) were installed

Good to know, I actually just ended up going with a k&n drop in filter and I noticed it made a difference so I'm happy with it and saved $300.

The factory intake system design on our cars are atcually fairly good. Many X owners just run a panel filter and come out with great results. Glad to see that your happy man...
