Ugly Noise at Cold Start-Up

been looking around and can't find what the problem is.

My Evo X makes a loud clunk noise (is like a metal bang noise and it only sounds once) whenever the car is cool down and I start it up for the first time.

The noise comes after around 4-5 seconds after the engine is running, without me moving the car or doing anything else but let it idle.

If i shut it off and start it again, the noise wont come on. The car runs great and has no mechanical issues whatsoever.

Has anyone had this problem before? what can be the cause and how can I fix this.

This noise is very annoying everytime I go somewhere and start my car up when is cool down and it makes this ugly sound.

Thanks for any help

Mine does this too, but mine sounds more like belt squeal/scratching noise coming from the driver side of the car. It's done it for as long as I could remember, figured it was something with the starter.

Is not a squeal, when I turn on the car for the first time it Idles for like 4 seconds then it makes the noise I am talking about, like a "CLANK" (metal sound). but it does it like 4 seconds after the car engine is running, without even moving the car or doing anything else to it.

Sounds normal, especially with cold transmission fluid, the driveshaft is moving.

If the clunk is from the front, it could be the clutch on the AC. If the clunk is from the rear, it's almost definitely the ACD/AYC pump.

Did you have the clutch done recently?

Could be something related to the clutch install. double check all the bolts.

Hm. If the clunk is consistently about 4-5 seconds after start-up, before the car is put into gear, then it really sounds to me (as it were) like one of the devices that has a delayed start-up. That's why I said AC clutch or ACD/AYC pump, as both have a delayed start.

Lots of Hondas, for example, have a nasty clunk to the AC clutch. To test this, you pull the relay for the clutch before the next time you start the car cold. If you have no idea where this relay is: http://www.evoxservicemanual.co.uk/P...2800-70&page=2

usually A/C compressor in other vehicles.

make sure your AC and heat are completely off before you start your car tomorrow morning. and report back.

does it without the A/C or the Heat being on, I rarely use the AC anyways unless is raining or summer days.

I am taking it to the dealer to see what they say tomorrow. I just wanted to see if anyone already knew cause I don't really trust dealers too much around the area I live.

Dealer says this noise is normal due to an ABS self diagnosis thing, Idk sounds crazy, does anyone else have any suggestions?

I know I never heard the noise before.

what area is it coming from? engine bay, rear end or down the driveline?

see if you can record it.

it sounds like in the driveline, in the middle of the car. I will try to get a video and upload it later on today, I still gotta go and pick up the car. This dealer also is trying to jack me up to pay $400 for a battery all because it is an EVO.

I just think they dont wanna cover the repair so they are telling me is fine, thats why I wanted to know the issue in advance so I can get em to fix it.
