I recommend it. The head is the brain of the engine. Port and polish would help a lot. Just make sure that who ever does it know what they doing.

He has his heads out. If he going to do it then he should do it now. Stock head does flow good but it can be improved. The better the flow the better the turbo will respond. Everyone will come here and tell u who to go with and who not to and so on. I say do your research and pick who you like at the end and what u can afford. I have head ported on a different car but also had the exhaust and intake done at the same time. What a difference. Remember the head is the brain of the engine but it's up to you to do what u want to ur car. Research is key. Then make ur own decision from that. Talk to the people who port heads and ask them what it will do for u.

Like to think of the head as the lungs oppose to the brain, that's what the ecu is for. I get your point though... if head is ported right it will increase flow which will get more air into combustion chamber which equals more power. Getting head ported correctly and making power under the curve takes proper improvements at all cam lifts and to get the right shop will not be cheap(a shop that has actual flow bench data). Depends on the OP's budget.

I refer to it as the brain because I'm kind of old school when it comes to heads. The ECU is just there and helps tuners make adjustments. The head is where everything happens. Before tuning was different. I don't think I can tune a car on the ECU but give me a old car and i'll get it tuned for you. lol

An old datsun or something like that

But your right, now the ECU does it all now. Adjustments needed is all through electronics and sensors. It's very refined because of the ECU. So yea, now the ECU is the brain.

I agree stock heads flow very well just build it and they can get you pretty high numbers you can save that money and use it for other power mods

I have different theorys I have been going through my head. The evo head flows extremely well, and with this said I have been thinking about just doing a polish, but then again gasket match and a polish. Idk its back and forth for me. I do know I would want someone who specializes in head work to do whatever I wanted though. I want it flowtested to match everything, I want proper ramp angles for intake and exhaust mani and everything in between. You can gain a ton of power in the bowl work. That is important to make sure I can gain everything out of the job you possibly can. Now is it worth it? Yep you bet, just make sure you get some one who knows what they are doing being if you don't it can hurt performance as well. Hope this helps

I was just wondering this same thing. I could've swore I read somewhere else that our heads already flow really good and it wouldn't be worth it. I'm thinking that was more along the lines of dont pull ur head just to port it tho. Being as its already out of the car I would think now is the best time to do it. Mine is off now and I'm still on the fence more so cause I don't want to let just anyone touch it nor do I want to mail it out.

Polishing could only help I would imagine, at least it would make you feel better at the end of the day lol

Hp per $? hmm not worth it in my book in this evo x example. Hey but how much money do you have laying around. Done properly you will make great gains. Would you rather put your $ somewhere more affective?
