Anyone have current information about who makes these and weights? I only found driveshaft shop' aluminum and carbon fiber options. Thanks.

I wasn't aware that the oem drive shaft weighed so much, that a light counterpart would be necessary.

If you were pushing enough torque to obliterate the oem unit, then the upgraded carbon or aluminum units from the DSS should be your best bet.

The stock ones aren't horribly heavy.
The DSS Carbon is 10lbs less than the Aluminum/Chromoly unit which is only slightly less than stock. Overall, yes, less rotational mass will help in the long run as it's 10lbs of reduced weight, but the moment of that inertial in a 3.5" or 4" driveshaft isn't all that great to begin with in respect to other forms of rotational mass that can be reduced - wheels, TIRES, brakes, etc.

Thanks. I have the Girodisc lightweight rotors and running Weds TC105n's. (also have Ohlins DFV's) so just looking at the other forms of rotational mass reduction.

I will be getting a DSS aluminum eventually. There was a review on here about the aluminum one.

IMO you have a ton of other parts that need to be addressed for power before you'd need to worry about a light weight drive shaft. Maybe after a complete motor build, big turbo kit, etc.

I have this one, factory is 3 piece, englewoods is 2. Front shaft is steel, rear is aluminum. I think I paid around 750 for both.

Made a noticeable difference. dont have a before and after dyno. I would do it again.

Yeah for the money it makes the car feel more responsive and feels like it frees up some of the power in the midrange. By far one of my favorite mods.

Just for reference:

OEM weighs 41.2 lbs. AWD Motorsports used to make one that was claimed to weigh 15 lbs.

I plan to do the DSS carbon one.

I'd agree, 2 piece rotors first though, then that.
