Question Transmission in MR vs. GSR effecting Top Speed?

I have an 08 GSR and if you live in Texas you might have heard of the Texas Mile where you can take your car to test it out and see the fastest speed you can hit in 1 mile. I was looking at the results at the last Texas Mile Event and found an Evo X MR on there and they hit 200 MPH. Not sure if he had any mods done or not but my question is that if you have a setup that is capable of doing it in either the GSR or the MR, would the MR reach a higher top speed because of the Transmission? It seems to me that the GSR's 5-speed might limit it. I want to take my car to this Event but not sure if it will be a disappointment because I believe my car could hit that 200 mark but I do not want to be in my car and top out because of that last 5th gear and be able to feel that my car could go faster if I had another gear.

Has anyone ever heard of someone doing a swap on the X from a 5 speed to a 6-speed? I have searched for it but can't find anything about it.

From the factory the 6-speed SST transmission has a longer top gear (6th) than the GSR's (5th). The car you mentioned though is very heavily modified; a stock Evo does not have the power to reach 200 MPH.

You can get a longer final-drive in your GSR to make the top speed higher, if of course you have the power to do so.

You'll be limited to about 171-172mph at 8000rpm on stock gearing, you could always change the final drive to a 4.11 and raise your top end speed to 195-196mph. That would probably be your best option because I have not heard of anyone building a 6 speed manual for the X.

Kracka, if you can see his signature you'll notice he is not driving a stock Evo. He has a PTE 5865.

It's not a longer 5th, it's a longer final drive which means all of your gears will in effect be longer.

Someone does build the box. Only thing is it's crazy expensive.

Get something better than Rotas and check the speed rating on your tires, too.

Wow! 18k for that 6-speed. Safe to say I will not be getting that.
Where can I find the longer final drive?

Hey, you said get something better than rotas and I have been looking around at some wheels because you said something about my safety. Didn't read anything to terrible about my wheels but I would like to get some anyway, just to be on the safe side. What would you suggest?

Volks or Rays engineering fully forged ones....Tires need to be at least "(y)" must be with the ( ) which are rated up over 186 mph. Z rating aint gonna cut it as they are rated at 149 or over . These must be very well balanced as well.

Shed some weight off the car ( 400 lbs ) and block off as much of the air going under the car as possible. Block off the rear bumper from catching air from the underneath.

All those will help keep the car safe and help with power to weight as well as the aero which is huge above 130 mph
