My first post and already I'm having problems with a newly bought used 2008 Evo GSR (43K miles). This is also my very first EVO and I've been loving it. Sadly, I have no clue of how to fix it. Here it is...

Symptoms before:
Occasional smell of burnt transmission oil through AC (had to turn off the AC to stop the smell)
Took high RPMs to accelerate

Symptoms now:
Engine won't go idle with clutch released on any gear
Does not go into any (1-5, R) gear (car is like it's stuck on neutral)
Stronger smell of burnt transmission oil
No leaks anywhere

I asked the owner and he told me I may have snapped the CMC (Clutch Master Cylinder) since its made of fantastic plastic. Also, the town I'm in has no clue how to diagnose or fix import cars. Most shops are afraid of touching it. The shop it's currently in wants to order a new transmission for me...

These symptoms sound nothing like a CMC failure, at least not one that I'm familiar with. Normally when your CMC goes bad, the only symptom/effect you'll get is the clutch will just stick to the floor and not come up.

 

Yeah that's true. The clutch goes up fine. Might've actually burnt the transmission.
