Stock engine failure (Only 57000km on it)
Just thought Id share some news with you about my engine crapping out on me. Its an 08 Evo MR, and I had only owned the car for 4-5 weeks when this happened, and I had a full service done on the engine, and drivetrain with factory spec fluids about a week before.
I took it into Mitsu for what sounded like a rattling noise in the top end. They seen that the timing chain tensioner was gone, and the chain was slapping around in there. They didnt hesitate to change the chain, tensioner, and guides through warranty.
After this was all done, they heard a noise in the bottom end now. A different noise than the one I brought it in for, and a noise that I never even noticed before. They figured it had either a crank bearing, or rod bearing gone in it... GREAT.
Mitsu gave them the go ahead to tear down the bottom end, to see that the number 2, and number 3 rod bearing were COMPLETELY gone. Number 2's steel casing was almost completely worn away. There was damage to the crank, and block as well. Needless to say, it was a big mess!
Again, they didnt hesitate to cover it under warranty. Which is very surprising, since I dont have any documentation of service being performed from the previous owner. Even the service manager at the dealer was surprised that they covered it. I was also lucky that the 5yr warranty on my 08 car is still in effect, because the car was originally purchased in May of 09.
So the end result was a BRAND new bottom end. New block, crank, rods, pistons, the works. They also sent off the head to be torn down, and checked/polished etc, to make sure it was 100% as well. I was a VERY happy man!
So to sum it up, it seems like Mitsubishi is a very good company to deal with, and they seem to really stand behind their products... I just wish I knew what exactly went wrong with the motor in the first place to cause all these issues. I have a feeling the previous owner was hard on it, but I guess Ill never know for sure.

I have read some owners have had great luck and MANY others NOT having much luck at all with having a warranty claim covered by Mitsubishi.
In the end, I'm glad it all worked out for you.
