anyone run an upgraded turbo on a stock evo
Hey guys so I'm thinking the first mod on my evo will be an upgraded turbo, I'm thinking a gtx3576r, with an o2 dump and a test pipe. I want to see what power the evo can make with only those parts, basically stock no intake, no exhaust or fuel syetem. I wanna see how much power I can make until I hit fuel cut, I know the turbo won't be performing at its full potential because air won't be able to go in and out as easily but I want a stealth build for now, so has anyone done anything like this?
Bad idea. It's like trying to run before you learn to walk. Most likely your stock fuel system is already overrun when you just turn up the stock turbo for more boost.
thanks for the info, however I don't need to make great power I just want to see what the car will do, of course FBO and upgraded fuel system will come, I already owned an evo with an MHI and got bored with that power so might as well throw the bigger turbo on there and get a conservative tune
my last Evo made 462hp but that turbo was limited to basically what I was making on it, like I said I'm not looking for great numbers without fuel system upgrades, but im planning on going to 600+ this time around and might as well do the turbo now, doesn't have to be pushed at all, I have the money so might as well buy a turbo now before I blow it on some thing else lol
why not just buy all the proper boltons and have them installed and tuned now if you have the cash. Save up for the turbo and fuel system upgrades while you are driving around in the full bolton setup. Without fuel and intake upgrades a bigger turbo will just feel slower on the street.

Curious why you sold a 2011 X that was putting out 462 whp to buy a 2015 X that is stock and then look to drop in a big turbo? They are essentially the same car. Your business, just curious.
Agreed with what others have said. A big turbo with no supporting mods will just be laggy with no top end compensation due to fuel cut. I'd suspect it would be slower than a stock turbo with proper supports on E85.
I think I understand where you are going - i.e. don't buy MHI sized injectors that will run out on a 35. I'd consider that with your bolt ons, but many parts work across turbo ranges for the most part - i.e. intake, intercooler, exhaust (maybe not DP), etc. Just look for what is compatible.

Reason was, we make mistakes and we live and learn which is why I had to go back to an Evo I missed it and was a huge mistake selling it lol and I might just do e85 and supporting mods and then drop in a big turbo, we will see
you could run stock intake and stock exhaust if you really wanted to but you would be really chocking the turbo hard.
stock fuel system would be a no go. Maybe stock fuel pump but no way injectors. even at wastage pressure on a gtx3576R you be in trouble.

these cars are 1/4 mile beasts so you dont really need a huge turbo, it will make you slower in the 1/4 unless you just looking to dyno high hp numbers. me personally are staying with stock appearance turbo's like my bbk full i had that thing made my belly tingle and people scream everytime it went into boost lol
