Timing chain replacement

Finally had my timing chain stretch ('08 GSR) after 9 yrs and 70k+ miles. Dealer just quoted me 2300 to get it replace and said I had to also replace the timing gears the chain goes on. I have not seen anyone else say this was needed.

BTW, quoted $700 at another dealer in a near by city who was surprised when I asked if it was necessary to replace the gears.

Anyone really need to do more than the chain?

If you're in Vegas hit up letsgetthisdone, he runs a small operation and is a Evo guru. He will do better work than a dealership

I was worried about my chain being stretch too. I'm at 75k and I have an 08. Couple of days ago I pulled my valve covers and it didn't look stretch at all. In fact it looked tight as hell. I was very surprised. I do change my oil 3k or 3 months on the dot.

Thanks to all who responded.

Yes got the triangle of death with p1260 code. My impression was that unless there was something wrong with the teeth Etc, replaceing anything more than the chain was excessive. I doubt it as it just came on, i dont launch the car (still on stock clutch in fact) and i am only moddied to ~340 ish whp. Chain was going to go eventually so i am ok with getting it fixed but dont want to get screwed by a greedy dealer. Is interesting the disparety in prices charged for this job. I was quoted between $700 and 1500 at 3 different dealers just for the chain replacement and nothing else.
