2010 RA Timing Chain Replacement Under Warranty

Mitsubishi just approved a warranty claim to replace my timing chain. The car has 50K miles and threw a Service Engine light twice. Two questions: 1) Is there anything else I should ask the dealer to look for (damage or anything else) while the engine is partially disassembled? 2) Should I notice any change in performance or economy with the new chain? My car has a few mods and runs a custom map, but the dealer is cool. They just replaced my ACD pump, a couple K ago. Any other common 50K mile failures to look out for?

Thanks, all!

Consider yourself lucky man! You have no idea what some of us went through as far as warranty claim is concern due to mods unrelated to the cause of the problem.

Make sure you take it easy with the new chain for 500 kms atleast!

I realize how lucky I am! Thanks for the warning about going easy for a while!

job done

I just got the car back after it spent a week at Mitsubishi. Is it common to replace the oil sender solenoid when doing this job?

Yes, they replaced mine as well when it happened to me at 46000 mi. $250 ouch, but not bad cause they warrantied the chain-job and all parts related to that.
Make sure you check for leaks after the chain job, and have them fix anything that comes up. It should be like new after the job is complete.

I am guessing the job total was around $1200-$1700+, lots of labor obviously. But where the price is supposed to be it all says "Warranty" on the bill. So just call the dealer and ask. And the Oil Solenoid part totals to $293 + Tax = $313. Good Luck.

Timing chain failure

I had a timing chain failure at about 68,000km and although I didn't have my service record they, by looking at the engine, said it was in great shape and covered it under warranty. Also at the same time they discovered that my cam gears were f*cked too and replaced them. The cost here in Australia would have been north of $3400, so I'm smilin'

hmmmm... I have just under 51k miles, about 6 months left on my RA's warranty, and this morning it stopped starting. Ran fine when I parked it last night. I did the basic checks, all seems fine (spark, fuel, compression). I wonder if its the timing chain...

I think I'm gonna have to give my local stealership a ring...
