Need help!!!! Question about 6266

whats going on everyone,=left
=left
I have a quick question about my Gen 2 precision 6266 turbo. I have a fully built motor(2.0) with an ETS 6266 turbo kit. i also have the driven fab catch can. I noticed white smoke comes out my exhaust after I'm in boost. id get to stop light or sign and see smoke coming out the exhaust, it smells like oil. i always check the my oil level and its always spot on, I did some reading and some people are running an oil restrictor? any idea what size I should run? and if so is this going to fix my problem? i contacted precision and they want me to send my turbo in, only thing is my turbo barley has 1500 miles on it. i rather try running a restrictor before I go threw the hassle of sending it back to them. Any input is greatly appreciated

There's thread here if you search this forum, but basically a VTA catch can sucks, and doesn't get rid of enough crankcase pressure. You need to do a recirculated setup. And a Restrictor to the turbo would probably also be a good idea.

The 6266 shouldn't NEED a restrictor. I would make sure you don't have anything restricting your drain line before installing a feed restrictor. And, letsgetthisdone is right about the VTA catch can setup. If you're seeing too much crankcase pressure, you're going to want to go recirculated.

The EvoX send a lot of oil pressure to the turbo. A .030" or .040" restrictor helps with reducing smoking a lot, and the turbo still gets plenty of oil. BB turbochargers only need the oil for lube, unlike a journal bearing turbo where it relies on high pressure to keep the shaft and thrust surfaces from touching the bearing surfaces (like a crankshaft).

This is entirely correct, but PTE indicates that their BB turbos have a restrictor already installed on the housing. Now, if it were removed for some reason, you'd want to get an inline restrictor for sure.

They do already have one in the housing. But on the evo, an additional restrictor is typically needed due to how much oil is sent to the turbo. Turbosmart even sells a pressure regulator for this exact scenario because a lot of cars the come with JB turbo's over oil the BB turbo's, even when they already have a restrictor in the CHRA.

Good to know. Sounds like another restrictor is in order. PTE isn't really the best with communicating this type of thing....

IMO, the best course of action is the turbosmart oil pressure regulator. No matter how much oil pressure it sees, it will always ensure max pressure is 40psi. With a just a restrictor, it has to be sized so the turbo gets enough oil at max load with hot oil. But on cold start, when engine oil pressure is 100+ PSI the restrictors is letting too much oil through.
