Value for money - starting out

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster from New Zealand.

Driving a Ralliart with X turbo / cooler, test pipe, hard IC pipes and intake to suit fitted. Effectively identical to an X in terms of tuning from here on out. Installing a boost activated dump shortly so the exhaust is a done deal. Has S-sport flashed on.

Its running on 98 RON e10, moderate climate here and it’s making about 300-310 virtual whp @ 20-22psi.

I’m stumped with where to next, sticking with stock turbo for now, in terms of value per $. Car is 95% off boost daily commuter with occasional play days at track, 1/4 mile etc.

Cams?
Tubular Manifold?
02 dump (which is a pain because RHD) - is an downpipe in general worth any real power or is the 02 housing where the bottleneck is? - the labour involved isn’t that bad once the shields have been removed before 😂
E85 isn’t an option but we do have good fuel
Have already fitted solid engine, diff and driveshaft mounts and decent coil overs

Advice appreciated, there’s a lot of conflicting info around which things are worth it on the stock huffer, there’s a wealth of info online but not much which doesn’t seem biased or outright guesswork

Thanks in advance

@razorlab may have better input, but you're at the point of looking at turbo upgrade and (I think) camshafts because ralliart has smaller cams than the X. While doing the turbo upgrade, you would do a down pipe at the same time. No real reason to do a manifold unless you're going to not stock frame turbo kit.

And then of course, save up for SST upgrades as well.

Cams are same as the 10.

Only options for more power is a turbo upgrade.

could also see if the tune is crap and possibly get gains there

Yeah, if cams are same, next mod is turbo with related parts (down pipe, fuel system etc). As I said, changing the manifold isn't needed for stock frame turbos. So unless you're going with a full T3 kit, don't buy a manifold.

Couple weeks of forum lurking has given me the same answer 😂 time to save for gearbox stuff first - was going to look at upgrading to a proper Evo down the track but I’d be up for the same costs on top anyway.

Might leave it at a decent downpipe and a visit to the dyno to polish things up. VD is a bit iffy for an exact figure but looks about right for the mods and boost. (Give or take 330whp on 22psi)

Love the look of a nice manifold (and mine has a hairline crack on one runner) but doesn’t look like I’d expect much from it compared to a downpipe.

Thanks for the input!
