EVO X MR Loud Supercharger Whine

Hey everyone,

I started noticing this when driving around 3k rpms, a loud whine like a supercharger has been fitted to my car.

I can reproduce the noise at idle in park around 4k rpms. I am not sure where this is coming from or where to look. I did a boost leak test and made sure all the hoses are tight and I still cant find where the sound is coming from.

Could the sound be coming from the sst trans? I did a new filter and fluid change with the mitsubishi diaqeen sst fluid.

I attached a video of the sound here...

Never heard that noise before. Maybe something in your intake? did you remove it when filling the SST?

Sounds like an accessory belt pulley on its way out. Alternator maybe.

I think a poster has a good idea about accessories. Remove serpentine belt and see if sound persists. Only run engine for a few minutes since water pump will not turn.

Update: removed Serpentine belt and the sound is still there.

It sounds like its coming from around the sst transmission.

So you did a fluid drain and fill on the SST, and then this happened how soon after? Did you follow the proper procedure for ensure fluid moved throughout the trans? Running it in each, P, R, N, D?

I did and I used my autel to preform a relearn.

I made sure the level was correct by measuring what came out and after I refilled I checked the level against the level check plug.

As for how long after, I dont drive this mr and only my gsr so I changed the fluids and put it back to sit.
So It could have been a day or a week.

If the car is in park or netural is anything in the transmission turning when you rev up the car besides the flywheel?

I do believe the internals of the SST are spinning when in P or N, I have a spare sitting here and it connects to the crank via splines, when I turn that input, the internals also spin, the clutches have no pressure obv.

I'm actually kinda amazed you didn't have to take your airbox off to access the fill plug, Mine sits right in the way, I have to take it off.

The car has a short ram intake, I can see the fill hole just by looking in the engine bay and using a extension and 8mm hex, I am able to take it off without taking off the intake. As far as refill, I have a long funnel.

Will be pulling more parts off and pressure testing all of the intake pipes individually this weekend just to triple make sure im not missing anything. I am still not convinced its not a pipe somewhere. Looking at the map and pressure, I can see the car is very slow to spool to 15psi. Like the car is in limp mode or a very large boost leak. Strangely enough, I dont have any cel's.

kept looking and tested every individual pipe and vacuum hose and only had a few tiny micro leaks but after replacing the lines, it still makes the whine noise.

I believe now that instead of the transmission, the sound is coming directly from the turbo and traveling down the intake making it sound like its coming right over the transmission.

I am now going to try and find a replacement turbo either second hand or reman and replace the turbo hopefully this weekend or next and will update everyone.

I think i found the issue why the car sounds like it has a super charger, it's has a bad bearing that resulted in the turbo compressor to consume itself.

Oh no! Well I guess I would take this over the trans.. Are you gonna stick with another OEM turbo?
