Can't decide which route to go

I'm losing sleep over which route to go

Been a while since I've done some modding and I have this itch I cant get rid of to go big. Over the past couple of weeks I've come up with different upgrade paths, tell me what you think. I guess the main goal is an autox beast with top end potential, oh and the car is no longer a DD :)

Regardless of which turbo I choose, I do plan on purchasing an ETS 4" fmic, Cobb AP, and retune by HB Speed. I guess the biggest issue is the money, I can't afford everything at once. So I want to plan accordingly.

option 1
E85 Conversion and keep stock turbo (I live about 1 mile away from 1 of 4 e85 stations in socal. But the car sits at my parents house in Orange County and I would have to transport fuel from LA to OC, which is sort of unpractical)

option 2
Devils Own Meth kit, injectors, fuel pump all at once

option 3
FP Green, 800cc injectors, fuel pump

option 4
FP red, 1000cc injectors, fuel pump

Obviously options 3 and option 4 are more expensive so I would need to have the supporting mods done first like the fmic, cobb AP, and retune. So I would probably have to wait another 2 or 3 before upgrading turbos.

Full Bolt on + tune first and see from there... but I will go option 4.

If you want up top and a track car from what I hear you cant beat option 4

Enjoitk Mar 9, 2010 07:18 AM

you will be disappointed with the outcome of a bigger turbo if you dont have meth or e85 in cali, but since you want top end power I would say option 4. Just prepare yourself for some horrible turbo lag

Option 2 for now then add in option 4 ftw.

murlo26 Mar 9, 2010 08:03 AM

Option 1...then option 4. The red's lag isn't bad. I spool as fast as the stock turbo with pump gas and stock tune. It's worth the little extra lag. .

E85 is win, once you experience it you won't go back. Worth the extra trip especially if it isn't your daily car.

^^^ I would do the same as murlo... I would say go with Fp red aswell.. currently I'm reading more and more about the BBX time will tell..

For a pure auto-x car, I think the stock turbo is the best option; you want max response and max 'area under the curve'. A relatively big/laggy turbo will hurt you in auto-x.

In this situation, you'll need to build everything around the stock turbo to maximize the power output: tubular exhaust manifold (Full-Race, etc), exhaust elbow/downpipe (AMS widemouth, etc), high flow cat (not sure you can run a test pipe at auto-x events, check with the rules), a big, free flowing exhaust.

All of these mods will maximize spool-up and transient response. Cams will improve top-end, but might hurt mid-range a tad. I think a drop-in air filter will be adaquate, or something like the AEM intake.

Also, gut out as much weight as you can as the rules allow.

Edit: just noticed you already have some of these parts. So add in the Full-Race mani. Get some race wheels/tires. Race tires make a HUGE difference in times.

I'd wouldn't worry about more power for at least a season. Run the car as it is this season to see how it goes.

i have option four and I am very happy with it.

option 3
FP Green, 800cc injectors, fuel pump
