I think it is pretty much official now, LA Auto Show Reporting EVO X is 295hp not sure on torque. Today is the fisrt press day, show opens for the public on Friday, Nov. 16th. I'll be there most likely tuesday.

Also I have a question, how come almost everyone who has seen in person both the STI and EVO X agree that the STI is just not a very attractive car exterior wise and the EVO is much more attractive. I mean this is coming from magazines, peeps at the tokyo auto show. I mean seriously I just have my doubts on the styling preferences of this forums. Seriously when EVO VIII owners can call the EVO X ugly then I seriously have to question the logic of their statement.

I mean this is what Motor Trend had to say, and this is just one of many automive journalist who agree that the STI just isn't a great looking car-

"So how do we handicap the inevitable face-off with the Evo? On purely aesthetic grounds, the Mitsubishi sedan annihilates the Subaru."

I mean they say everybody has different tastes when it comes to looks, so I'll keep that in mind and make sure nobody from this forum ever sets me up on a blind date, sh*t might set me up with a 300lb man posing as a woman. Get your eyes checked people, the STI is just fugly!!!!! Seriously some of you guys are just way too harsh on the EVO X and way too optimistic with the 09 STI. Wait, this is an EVO forum isn't it? Oh sh*t my bad, I must logged into IWSTI.com on accident.

Hey it's all good, so some people like the sti better than the Evo X oh well. Some people find fat people sexy I guess.

I'm with you! I came from WRX forums and the new design is not very much debated as it is here with the new EVO X. The new WRX design is just WRONG!!! I see Corolla, Focus and Mazda 3 infused together. To top it off, WRX (not STI) does not necessarily have significant difference in performance and suspension department. That's something to complain and whine about. I can only hope better things for the STI since there's not much test drive or reviews have popped out to bring justice to its new design.

You guys should be thankful! And there's nothing wrong with fat people (let's not be shallow here), but an exemption with a 300lbs. man posing as a woman... and definitely fat cars, YES!!

I couldn't agree more. When I'm driving around and see an '04-'06 STI, my head turns, because it looks mean and is easy to pick out. The other day, I was driving and saw a new WRX hatch...I didn't even realize it was a WRX until I saw the Subie badge. It looked like a crappy kia hatch. The STI is going to need more than fender flares to make it look good. It needs to not be a hatch. Period.

The bottom line is that the X does blow away the STI in the aesthetics category. There is no doubt that the design was much more thought out...they didn't just throw crap together like they did with the STI. The Evo screams aggression with the angular headlights and giant open grill. The lines flow well and the overall shape of the car suggests that its an Evo. Sure, its sort of Audi-esque, but it works and looks far more badass.

The only complaint I have of the X's exterior is that it looks bulky in comparison to the IX. Very pig-like proportions. But it also looks far more clean than the IX. The higher belt line and smaller greenhouse look much sharper. As much as I would gripe about the X's power/weight problems, just based on style alone, I would take it in a heartbeat over the new STI.

I have a question on the hp ratings. Didn't a new rating system went into effect and virtually every manufacturer had their hp levels change just like the new EPA fuel economy ratings?

If so, the 295hp rating would be 300+ on the old rating system.

As far as I know, no new system as come out since the one that came out a couple of years ago. I remember one of the biggest losers in the hp rating dept. was Honda with their Acura TL going from 274bhp to a rating of around 247bhp. The Civic SI went from 200bhp to 197bhp. I also think the S2000 went from 250bhp to 237bhp (Might be off on some of these numbers, trying to remember off the top of my head). Mitsubishi hp #'s didn't change too much cause they didn't really cheat at all when giving hp ratings.

as far as honda's being "the biggest losers", the engines didnt loose any hp when compared from before, just like how the sti was rated at 293hp for 07, yest its the same exact engine

Sorry bro, sometimes you just gotta get NASTY!!!

It's amusing and amazing how some folk just can't grasp the knowledge of Lancer EVOLUTION. I decided to "google-define" it for those who don't grasp the term yet.

EVOLUTION: development: a process in which something passes by degrees to a different stage (especially a more advanced or mature stage)

I sincerely hope you will continue to feel the same way after you see the car in person. Locally, we've had the car on display for many weeks. The local enthusiast community was all enthused (well, what else?) about the looks before release, but mostly underwhelmed after they'd seen it in person. Many cars look better in the flesh than in photos. The Evo X is one of those rare (and sad) exceptions that actually looks more compelling in photos than in real life. This is my opinion, but it is shared by many others where I live.

Wait for the car to come into your dealerships and tell me what you think of it. If you still think it looks as good in the flesh as on paper, I will stand corrected, but please be honest.

The STI is fugly in photos - and I have no idea how it will look in real life, since I haven't seen it. There was some car show where they brought it in, but I didn't go.

I don't know about throwing crap together for the STi. Petter solberg sat down with subaru and put all of his ideas into that hatchback sti, he gave info on what he wanted, and last i heard the American rally was won by Subaru (travis) and supposely the new model is better than the ones travis drove so.... i doubt its as ****ty as you guys make it out to be. Yeah looks can be subjective but the car will probably be an impressive performing vehicle
