Japanese Spec Evo X Official Weight!

Looks like the US got screwed. Again.

I did some searching and found the Jap spec sheet - http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/evo/spec/spe_02.html.

It states that the GSR with the 5M/T weighs 1520kg (3351lbs) and the GSR with the TCSST (there is no MR in Japan) weighs 1540kg (3395lbs). However, from what I understood from the crappy Google Translation, both cars are not equipped with things that are standard on the US-spec Evolutions (mainly on the MR). These are things like side curtain airbags (+10kg), Rockford Fosgate sound system (+20 kg), what looks to be leather seats(+10kg) and electric sunroof (+20kg).

This means that a fully equipped Jap-spec GSR with TCSST, which is equivalent to a fully equipped US-spec MR, would weigh in at 1600kg (3527lbs), only a bit more than a base US-spec GSR (3517lbs) and less than a base MR (3594lbs)...

Well the latest issue of Sports compact says EVO X GSR is.............3344! MR is 3388?

Not sure how valid this is but it was a pretty in depth 3 page or so preview.

Dude, that weight is less than JDM spec. We've got more airbags and much beefier/heavier crash bars...do you honestly think its going to weight less?
Not a chance.

I can only wish! You can do some basic weight cutting, like spare tire, tools etc and some other stuff to get the weight down when you get it.

Sport Compact has done 12434643634 articles on EVO X so I'm not sure how they got it so far off. I would still be happy with 3350-3400 :P

I have a feeling though Mistu underrated the EVO engine again. Once other mags start testing EVO , we will see much better times than 13.8 102 traps. X will be a monster around the track though no doubt.

^ That's highly possible.

Most Japanese manufacturers have the tendency to underrate their high power vehicles. This is due to them wanting continue obeying the "Gentlemen's Agreement", which states that a car should not have more than 280PS. There are plenty examples for that - previous Evo's, GTR's, NSX's, Supra's and many more.

That agreement is basically dead. I think the 480 hp Nissan GT-R is a good example. Besides, it was an agreement to no more than 280 hp.

Yup, 1420kg (3131lbs) indeed.

But then again it doesn't even have the heavy Brembo's and 18" wheels, which will add another 30kg (66lbs) to the weight.

Really wish cars would stop weighing so much, but its not possible with all these safety regulations these days.
