Well there is still hope for the EVO X...

This post is for the enthusiast, I realize there is large group of people who are satisified with the looks and overall package of the EVO X. Still there remains an even larger group of people who care more about performance than luxury items and a more comfortable ride (this includes me). In reality, the performance of the EVO VIII/IX and 04-07 STI is so similiar it is shocking. In most cases (not all cases) the USDM EVO VIII/IX has been the quicker of the two cars. But the differences can be so small, that in reality driving ability plays a huge role. What has really set the EVO apart from the STI and other cars, is its ability to gain so much power at a relatively cheap price. For instance the EVO IX stock turbo is good for well over 400whp. On the other hand the smaller stock snail on the STI begins to lose steam around 330 to 340whp. I am not entirely sure, but I believe the 08 STI turbo and engine are pretty much a carry over from last year's model (maybe small changes, but nothing really significant), so I pretty much know what to expect from the 08 STI when it comes to modifications. The EVO X on the other hand is a . If it continues the EVO tradition of awesome aftermarket potential than there may still be some hope for the EVO X with us enthusiast. You never know, maybe this new engine is special, and maybe with a TBE, Intake, MBC, and a Tune it makes 350-360whp and we are all like, DAMN! But then again maybe it makes less power than a EVO IX, maybe less than a VIII. If that is the case, then, well I will officially concentrate on the EVO XI and hope for the best

Doesn't the X use a smaller turbo than the IX?

People just don't understand that the 4G63 produced more stock horsepower per liter THAN ANY OTHER PISTON ENGINE EVER in a production car. How the hell are you going to supersede that?

The only hope is Mitsu would put a small electric motor at the place where the battery was before they put it into the trunk.

That day's probably a good 40-50 years away IMO, the TME will be the classic of the evo line. It'll be the 427 GT500 of it's day while the CT9A models will be the 289 GTs.

Meh, maybe you're just in denial. I've accepted the fact that mitsu dropped the ball with the X. The lucky ones would be ppl who bought the IX/IX SE because I think these are the best Evos the USDM will ever see for a while. Can Mitsu bounce with the successor to the X? Only if they realize that people who buy Evos aren't in for the luxury of a GT car but rather the raw feel and performance of a rally homoligation special.

To me, it's a big IF. I would think Mitsu would have gotten more hp/tq out of the engine (to make up for the added weight and at least make the X as fast as the IX) if they could have done it reliably and within emissions specs. The fact that they didn't tells you something about the engine and its potential.

I think we will find the answer in 2013 when they introduce the Evo XII MR

My friends cousin is the district manager for Mitsubishi Northeast of America I could always ask him what's going on. In all honesty though, the days of the true sports-car like evo's are over.

I don't even know why everyone is trying to make post to revive horsepower, what you should make post about are the car losing weight. No matter how much hp you throw at it weight is always going to affect cornering, mpg, etc.

[Edit] I meant the Northeast region of america, lol.

it will be funny to see all the haters eat their words when the X comes out.

i am so spiteful, i will go to each "hater" thread and post "I told you so".

well, at least i am hoping that we are still missing something here, maybe the weight is off, power#s, something, pretty please Mitsu.

Otherwise, people will have to find ways to strip 100-150lbs off the car and make up for it with tuning, (hopefully the new engine responds as well if not better to that)

I know, please do post saying the the weight and power#s are official, that the vids all point to the fact that the X is slow, blah, blah. My stance ramains that until i see it, feel it, drive it, i will not be convinced of anything.

Man can dream, right,...

This post is the reason mitsu dropped the ball. When people bought their evo viii/ix they didn't have to think of things to make it faster before they bought it, because it was already fast. people modded their evo's because they wanted to not because they had to, people should not have to pre-mod the X just to put it on par with an ix mitsu should have done this during R&D, im pretty sure the ix was the bench mark during the development stages.
