No we are getting the same Recaro's as the JDM. Only difference is the *** cushion will be extended forward 2 inches because Americans are generally taller. You can see this in the photo above.
All other dimensions will be the exact same.

Putting nicer wheels and seats in the STI is going to be easier and cheaper than shedding 200 pounds of weight from the Evo X.

Yeah that's a great idea except you'll lose side impact airbags. If you ever get injured during a T-bone don't expect medical insurance to cover you either. Unless it is a track car I wouldnt go there.

i don't know guys. friend and i saw the EVO X in a magazine going against the IX. the X ran something like a 14 in the quarter and trapped at like 97 MPH. it was terrible the only explanation we were able to come up with is that perhaps it wasn't broken in. i'll find out which magazine it was when i see my friend again later.

Its motortrend. I think they mentioned something about the X being unhealthy or something...

+1

Seems like the new STI is more "Evo" than the Evo X.

If it wasnt so ugly and generic up front i would have put a deposit on the sti already. Dealer in nyc told me he'd let one go for 500 over invoice, but i know if i go in there he wouldnt let go of a sale for 500 buks. If i could get that wrc wing i think that would clinch me switchin to the sti---never thought id see the day id even consider this.

Lack of side impact airbags and a low safety rating did not stop people from buying Evos . Life is about risk, sometimes you have to increase your exposure a bit to get what you want. I put Recaro Sports in my 06 STI because the seats hurt so much it was either replace the seats or sell the car and get an Evo ... which wouldn't have had side impact airbags either . If safety was the only thing I cared about, I'd be driving a Volvo .

We've only had the twins here for a few years, so this is a wild *** guess -- I'm betting the STI & Evo trade places generation to generation as to who is king of the performance hill, although it's always by the slimmest of margins. Mitsu gets a leg up and Subaru puts in a little extra effort for the next generation. This time the STI is going to give the Evo engineers inspiration for the XI. That's how a good rivalry should work.

But we better get it while we still can, because I don't think either of these cars are likely to hit 35 mpg anytime soon, certainly not before 2012, and probably not ever. Government regulation == .

not as cheap as putting a TBE and a tune

Ya lost me. What does a TBE and tune have to do with anything? I can do that on either car for about the same amount of money, but it doesn't address the seats in the case of the STI or the weight in the case of the Evo X.

The 4B11 and it's entire ECU are brand new. The EJ25 added VVT on the exhaust side but the change in ECU code is probably comparable to the change from VIII to IX. So how do you figure the flash for an X will be cheaper than a flash for an STI?

Maybe you should see what kind of power the new STI is making with simple mods. There's a thread on NASIOC and from what I remember they were hitting 300+ ft-lbs of torque pretty easily.
