Let's get this forum moving in a more positive direction shall we. What are the "proposed" methods of losing some weight on the new X, while still maintaining it's civil qualities? I have some ideas, feel free to flame:
1. Carbon fiber hood.
2. Remove the spare
3. Aluminum bumper supports (or why can't we do this in CF)
4. Aftermarket exhaust...sometimes a 40lbs difference. (titanium if you got the $$)
5. CF propeller shaft
6. Small gel battery
Would most be happy if we got this pig down to 3400 lbs??

The seats are already pretty nice but you could probably get some carbon shell buckets. You can also remove all the airbags if it's a track car, there's probably a lot of weight to be had out of that. Forged wheels that are lighter than stock would also be an option. Remove rear wiper assembly for us So Cal folks. That's all i got for now.

Get rid of that sound deadening. I believe someone posted that there was a good 10-15 lbs just at the firewall section. Pull off all the carpet padding and padding in the roof lining and put the carpet back, I've done it on my car and you can't even tell there isn't any padding there.
in the X is anything like the IX, carbon hood won't do anything but look pretty. the aluminum hood is as light, or lighter than most wet carbon hoods out there. you'd have to spend a good chunk on a dry carbon hood to get one that weighs less than the stock hood, and even then you'd only be looking at saving 6lbs or so. the trunk is another story. you could drop 20-30lbs that way.
Doubt it will be a big saving over the stock aluminum one.
That sort-of goes against your 'keeping it civilian' plan
according to this article http://www.motivemag.com/pub/feature...volution.shtml, they are already aluminum:

Both the front and the rear bumper beams are made out of aluminum, as are the hood, roof and front fenders.
