Evo X MR test drive teaser
aaaaand ... how does SST not equal an automatic transmission? The last time I checked a transmission that shifts by itself is ... ?automatic?
It will be very interesting to see how the SST stacks up to the VW/Audi DSG transmission, especially the newer ones, like the one found on my wife's R32 - the older A3 DSG was less impressive.

Semantics, yes, but the SST won't drive or feel like an automatic by any means. Heck, they're faster and more efficient than a manual. And they still have a manual shift mode.

"Automatics" have a torque converter to facilitate shifts. Dual Clutch Transmissions (DCT, DSG, SST, etc.) have an automatic shift "mode" but are still technically manuals since they use clutches, just like BMW's SMG isn't an automatic. Just like the sequential gearboxes in F1 cars and WRC rally cars aren't automatics.

So there's no full auto mode? You can't just step on the gas and go, letting the car shift for you? I'm not sure which part of my joke was inaccurate?

Manual=Manual
I win you lose
IMO the safest bet is to stick to calling it DSG, as that describes it accurately and independently from manufacturer. It's not an automatic in the traditional sense, nor is it a manual in the traditional sense.
