16/22 Mpg does it bother you?

As the title states. I personally think that the Mpg's should be better. Why do you guys think the mpgs are soo bad. I think it has to do with a quick spooling turbo, heavier car, and gearing. Do you guys think the MPGS will improve with a tune, because the car is soo rich? I love the car, I for sure want to get one, but seeing those Mpgs have me second guessing my self. I Know the evo is never going to get great gas mileage, but sh*t, those numbers just plain suck. And with oil prices going up, I see very a very high gas bill.

Side note off topic ***** I just heard on the radio the other day that shaq oneil, goes through $15k worth of gas a month. OMG thats horrible, even if I had the money he did, I wouldnt be spending that much on fuel, thats horible for the enviroment.

Unfortunately AWD sucks up a lot of fuel. I'm sure the EVO would get near 30mpg if it was FWD, but who the heck would want a FWD EVO? lol

Be thankful you don't drive an EVO FQ-400....that thing gets 4mpg when you're flogging it!

The MPG does bother me, but it's a performance car, low gas mileage is expected. It's the same as the old Evo's, under the new EPA regulations. The old STi's & the new ones are similar as well, so are the R32's. The Rx-8's, Acura TL's, & the IS 350's are all around the same MPG, give or take 2 or 3 MPGs. What might hurt my pocket the most, will be the extra 10-20 cents per gallon because of the switch to Premium from Regular that I will have to make. But if that's what I have to do to get a X, so be it.

Yea I can see the awd using a lot ao fuel, but damn not that much. Should it get better with a tune? I mean martin at ams said that car was basically choking on its self.

Yea i hear yam but all of those cars that you named expect for the rx8 have a bigger motor then the evo. I dunno, maybe I am just being weird. I know performance cars dont get good gas mileage, but im sorry the evo has a 2.0 liter and even if its awd and turbo, it still should net a higher MPG, expecially with new motor.

however, it is a 2.0l engine, so 22/16 is decent i would say.

It's a boosted motor in a AWD heavy car, with big heavy wheels, with wide sticky tires that have a high rolling resistance. Not so good in the aero drag department either. It's going to get crappy gas mileage.

If you want to get better gas mileage, strip the car down and put on smaller/narrower wheels and tires.

I was going to say something about the 335 but I want for sure. I head that they get upwards of 30mpg. I am not sure if thats true, but how does that work.
And a 2.0 liter, should still get better MPGs then this!

Boosted and being heavy I could see that being a factor. Having wide sticky tires I couldnt see doing that much. There not sticky when you roll them....i dont see how they would have a high rolling resistance, but maybe they do, im not argueing just thinking it through. Aero...sure at higher highway speeds, but not at lower speeds.

MPG testing

Running 75 mph, I am getting 26 mpg on the highway with no major hills and no wind (calm wind). I used the mpg display for this over a 20 mile freeway run using the cruise control the whole time. Using cruise will probably save 2-4 mpg.

I am using Premium 91 octane fuel. Made no changes to the car as it came from the factory. I do have the factory Aero Kit and SSS spoiler. Both of these could have a small affect on mpg.

The mpg is on par with other cars of similar output and weight that have AWD. I don't know if you're going to find much better. You definitely won't see the same kind of mpg as the Audi you're currently driving. The 1.8t and the 2.0t Audi/VW motor is very efficient, but puts out much less hp.

Those numbers definitely stood out when I looked at the sticker. Getting close to guzzler tax.
