Trunk in the Evo X

I was looking at the pics of the trunk and I saw that the battery and washer fluid resevoir have been relocated to the trunk. But it ALSO looks like the rear seats don't fold down at all.

Does anyone have any info/pics of this?

Don't fold down because of the mentioned items. Also, trunk is 6.5 - 6.7 cubic feet (can't remember, but somewhere between those #'s). Don't think any Evos seats could fold down.

Well, that just killed it for me.

As much as i'd love to have an Evo, I need the ability to carry larger items.

I mean, that trunk barely looks big enough for a set of golf clubs!!

The Evo 8/9 rear seats did not fold down either and the washer fluid tank has always been in the trunk.

Intersting.

Well, that is one point I can honestly say I never knew about the VIII/IX's.

Unfortunatley, thats also the reason why I never ended up buying a WRX/STI...they have the same PROBLEM.

Hopefully they (being Mitsu) didn't design the new Ralliart with the same flaw.

Well, just the lack of expandable space (ergo fold down rear seats).

Don't know about the ralliart, but other base lancers, oz, gts, es, ls, de, etc. can all have their seats fold down, if you pay extra.

What do you mean "pay extra"??

We have to pay now to have seats fold down? lol

At least on the '06 ES (cheapest/base lancer) you had to pay an extra $500 for a convenience package, which included the ability to fold down the seats. My '03 OZ came w/it, but I don't know if that was standard or not.

It's not a flaw, nor is it a problem, at least not for the car and for folks who appreciate a high-performance automobile. The rear seat doesn't fold down due to the X-brace, which would make such an option moot. If you need greater utility, then you should opt for a less purposeful vehicle like the em-kay you have now. It's really pretty simple.

Ouch. lol

Look at the automotive industry, do you really think the NEW evo was built as a premium performance sedan? Moreso, do you really think having fold down seats would negate an x-brace?? All it would do is it would make it so that Mitsu would have to design around it and probably increase overall costs elsewhere. Its a shortcut.

Subaru has fixed they're issues with not having folding rear seats in they're new WRX sedan. And I'm sure they're STI hatch will have folding seats.

As for my MK...I don't want to talk about it...lets just say there is a reason I still lurk on these forums. haha

I don't understand the relevance.

It's the other way around. The X-brace, located behind the rear seats, doesn't allow for any utility if a fold-down option were available.

All it would do is it would make it so that Mitsu would have to design around it and probably increase overall costs elsewhere. Its a shortcut.
Mitsubishi would have to redesign the chassis and the interior layout. It would have to add torsional rigidity, which would normally be supplied by the x-brace, and it would have to relocate all components braced against the rear seat of the X - the battery and the fluid. That's no small task in a price-sensitive market.

Subaru has fixed they're issues with not having folding rear seats in they're new WRX sedan. And I'm sure they're STI hatch will have folding seats.
So, why not buy a Subaru? I'm not trying to sound cavalier; rather I'm hoping to illustrate a point. If the Evo doesn't meet one's needs, there's something else that may.

As for my MK...I don't want to talk about it...lets just say there is a reason I still lurk on these forums. haha
