No 2008 Evo X Mr!?!

I strolled by Rockville Mitsubishi here in MD after getting a call about them receiving 2 08 GSR's. Having owned an VIII, I was curious and rather skeptical about what to expect when seeing and sitting in the X for my first time. Long story short, I asked when the MR's would be coming in because I was originally told March. The salesmen said that they weren't going to produce them until 2009 and that all the MR orders had been cancelled. According to him there was a problem with some "chip" having to do with the new new twin-clutch tranny. I was pretty disappointed since I was looking forward to having a new 08 X MR to parked next to my VIII, but I guess I will have to wait.

Also, is anybody aware that the X's ECU is located in the engine bay right where the battery would be on an VIII or an IX? I don't know what kind of problem this will pose in terms of overheating, water damage, etc.

I dunno man. That might be the same dealership that told me no test drives and the only way you can drive an X is if you actually paid for one.

I was like ok ill go to another dealer.

Jesus all this BS about dealers stating the MR is not coming until next year blah blah blah is really getting old. The guy is full of shiat. This has been discussed plenty on this forum.

I called all my local dealers this weekend. From what I can tell, they dont know jack. I heard everything from 'there is no MR' to 'we'll have 2 on the lot first week of March'. One dealer even told me that the delays were due to train schedules, cause they get here from Japan via rail lol

I'm not sure how legit it is, but one interesting bit of info I did get was that the MR's are in the US ports, but are not being shipped out of the ports yet due to some issues discovered while they were in route over seas. Instead of shipping the units back to Japan, they are trying to get techs over to the US to fix the problem. Could just be more BS... who knows

BTW, there's an ECU unit built onto the transmission casing, which connects via the CAN bus to the primary ECU that you mentioned. It might be the case that both would need flashed... again, who knows. Check out the service training vids in the sticky post for more details on how that works/looks

There is no way Mitsubishi would not figure this out. They would not go a whole year without an automatic EVO on the market. They would stand to loose too much money!

hey, I work for Rockville Mitsubishi... We spoke to our regional rep... That is what he said... But the salesgiy was wrong... Its just the SST tune and from what I hear the problem has been fixed but we are unaware if we are getting them in on time or not

Our orders are still saying they are still coming...

We sold the white one btw... No markups

And the test drive thing is a gray area... If your pretty serious its fine, but I dont think you'd want to buy and evo with like 50 miles right?

Evo M mods, please pm me about becoming a vendor, thanks!

Btw, I also find it interesting that in Japan they've released the MR. So why would there STILL be an issue with the U.S. bound MRs??

I would assume different emission regulations and how we get low octane fuel, but these differences shouldn't take long to fix imo...

I'm having difficulty understanding this comment...wouldn't the Evo X MR be the first ever auto tranny for an Evo?

Not a automatic transmission; it is a DCT. And it IS Mitsubishi's first DCT car...
