PERRIN Performance EVO X and a company challenge!
Let the rivalry BEGIN!
PERRIN Performance is not just Subaru. We have always worked our magic into other brands like Scion, Dodge SRT-4, MazdaSpeed and Mitsubishi. However, the company decided in recent months to chisel our focus and thus cease development of new products for any cars other than the Subaru. Our sales department has now tried to move the remaining inventory of MazdaSpeed, Scion and SRT-4 items remaining. Well I decided that I am resurrecting some focus BEYOND just Subaru and develop and create a bunch of new items for the EVO 8/9 as well as for the X!
I have always been a fan (and will continue to be) of the Subaru models and have owned nearly a dozen of them in the past 6 years, I can say that I have always been drawn to the Mitsubishi Evolution. Purchased one of the very first 03’s to hit our local area and truly loved the car. PERRIN Performance used the car for R&D on most all of the products we currently offer for the EVO 8/9. After a year I reluctantly sold the car to get into the STi. Only to sell the STi about 6 months later. In 2005 I again went for the EVO and we as a company developed a beautiful blue and silver combination car of performance, style and luxury. It was featured in several magazines and then recently sold to a new home in the Chicago area.
So that brings me to today. While I continue to enjoy helping all of our Subaru clientele I have decided that my personal performance machine is going to be the Evolution X! Many have criticized the heavier curb weight and the new body style, I find myself drawn to the angular lines and chunk body. It exudes performance and purpose, both things I REALLY like. Also, I like many others have not been 100% sold on the new Subaru WRX and STI sedan and H/B style (I still own an 08 Sedan so please no hating!) while I think the EVO stays true to its roots even with a few extra pounds. Well yesterday I bit the bullet and purchased “Project X”! A 2008 Evolution X, in Wicked White.
This car is simply amazing. The folks at Mitsubishi have really done their homework. So many improvements to the interior. The materials are richer, and oh my god CRUISE control! ( I can’t tell you how upset my right leg was on our many trips to Las Vegas from Portland in the 05 EVO!) Even the new Rockford Fostgate sound system, well, sounds GOOD! Of course the car is still in break-in mode, but even with that, the power is strong and deliberate. Waiting a few hundred more miles before I strap it to the dyno and see where I am starting.
Ok so you ask; “What is this rivalry you mentioned in the title?” Simply put it is the old school Camaro vs. Mustang, only this time it is Mitsubishi vs. Subaru. Jeff Perrin recently purchased an 08 STI, and now I have the 08 Evolution X. The ground rules haven’t been set yet (to things like budget, etc.) but it is going to be a take no prisoners kind of contest. From drag racing, to lap times, style and luxury, day to day drivability, fuel economy, we are going to battle it out in the coming year to see who rises to the top.
I will post more information as it develops. Also pics to be posted ASAP. Been raining since delivery! In the meantime stay clicked to the blogs and to our gallery to see the cars as they shape up. Also, don’t be surprised to see a feature article or two in your favorite magazine online or on newsstands coming soon!
Questions? Concerns? Rants or raves? Just e-mail me adam.taft@perrinperformance.com , john.leitl@perrinperformance.com or Jeff.Perrin@perrinperformance.com We look forward to the feedback!

Thanks for the support guys and gals! I will try to get some pics up, (not like you haven't already seen an X) and also more of the ground rules on the project. We are considering budget for each car, corporate sponsorship options, displacement, etc. etc. So as we determine those, we will post them up here.
I do agree though that Jeff is going DOWN!!!!!!

this is great news!
i'm not sure how well the new subie takes in modifications but as far as i know it has the same engine as before so i guess it would just be minor adjustments to the fitment of your parts to it and the power gains i would be expecting from your subie would be more or less the same compared to the older model.
based on what other tuners have already started doing with their X's it seems the evo X responds very well to performance parts even without tuning. i guess the only limitation of the X is the smaller turbo compared to the IX and the added weight. Gudluk on your development!

I spent 6 months trying to figure out what Exhaust to put on my Evo VIII. Once I heard the Perrin catback I was sold. In fact, it was on both of my VIIIs. Now that I have my X I was anxiously awaiting the release of your catback and now I find out that you won't be releasing one
. I'm heartbroken fellas.

Jeff and I are going to discuss that hopefully today. We also need to determine what if any support we are allowed to get from our corporate sponsors (lets say Exedy, H&R, Konig, Yokohama, Dunlop, SuperTech, etc.) It just needs to be fair. BUT, just because he or I might need more money to reach a goal isn't a fair fight. The cars have similar MSRP's, so the budget needs to be level going forward. My idea is to make it very much like you (EVO X owner) or an STI owner buying your car, then modding it. For this to work, we shouldn't get much of an advantage on budget.
This way you guys can do the same things and achieve the same results. What will be allowed is OT etc. to do it. So if Jeff or I want to stay until 3 am every morning working on the car, that is a-ok.
Thanks again everyone for the support. I hope to get some more concrete details up ASAP!

. I'm heartbroken fellas. As soon as I complete some addl. break-in miles I will be fabbing and welding up some systems for power and sound testing. We will publish those results here and on our website etc. Then production will begin then. So we are ANXIOUS to get this group the products they demand.
PLEASE let me know if I missed something or I can help further! Chat soon. Thanks again for the support!
