Only when in first gear at a stop, is there a 5500RPM limiter.

And you didnt drive the MR, so why you quoting that???

The only SLIGHT difference power wise is at takeoff. In the previous versions (as you know) the turbo boost was so insane, it felt like you might lose control in 1st gear if not paying full attention. It is more subtle now thanks to the 5500 rev limiter in 1st gear but it still doesnt slouch by any means. The turbo pull feels strong in all 5 gears up to redline though. Drop it into 2nd around 50 mph, get on it and it still feels like you are being shot from a cannon. You can also feel the new S-AWC system. I would never do this on a road with traffic but I really played around with it on the closed road I snuck on to. Cornering, handling, braking etc...everything is top notch and even better than previous versions which is hard to believe.

As much as I love my Mustang, I feel the Evo X is probably the most complete, out of the box race car you can get for $32k. Great power, Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, one of the best AWD systems ever made and a pretty decent interior. Especially considering how easy these new ones are taking to mods. People are getting 350-360 whp with a simple tune and exhaust. I really love this car!
So its like the old ones but slower =X How is that like the old one?

Also I dont see anything wrong with the Evo 8/9 AWD system

I have already tested the Evo X, I think I will wait for the new M3, GT-R, IS-F or maybe even the new Supra or just keep the Evo I have right now and pass on by the people with the Evo X

Great, sounds like the X isnt for you then. The AWD system in the X is largely improved over the VIII and IX USDM cars. Gone are the issues of understeer with the new system. The bummer part is we are late to the party, since Europe has been enjoying this car for a long time. Well, the AWD system at least.

That sucks. I was just on a lot today with 7 of them for $32k and change. The other 3 were around $35k for some options.

i had the same experience as you did, i drove the X the first week it came out.... and it just felt like the power wasnt there like the previous 8's and esp. 9's....
but hopefully with parts and good tuning the X should be up there....

^ seems to take very little coaxing to get more power out of it.... Some people like linear power deliveryan some other want to feel the turbo come on... That the difference of opinion here... There is no right or wrong

Ok, this is the 2nd review to mention a rev limiter. Does it have one or not?! Driving it, I swear it did!

"It builds power more progressively than the STI—to a peak of 291 hp—and pulls frantically all the way to its rev limiter. You’ll never be surprised by the rev limiter"

Im not sure about the X-GSR (manual), but the MR has a REV limiter while the vehicle is STOPPED at 5500.. But once the car is in MOTION, there is no limiter until you reach the redline limiter... Probably set around 7400 (my guess)..

It has a rev limiter. When they say there is a rev limiter set at 5500, They mean a stationary limiter most likely just like the 05 and up came with...Come on now, you drove it for a few hours, You should know this.

Then why does he say it "pulls frantically all the way to its rev limiter"? A car sitting there cant "pull frantically". he is obviously talking about it being in motion and I didnt take it all the way to redline, didnt want to tear up a brand new car. So I wouldnt have noticed as much.

There is a rev limiter set at 7500 I believe and there is also a stationary limiter set at 5000 or 5500, stationary means Fixed in position, Or for better words not moving...So when they say there is a limiter set at 5000 or so, they are talking about the stationary limiter or launch limiter as some call it...Not the rev limiter.

Good review of the car. I would like to drive one but it would be a bad comparison going from a modded evo to a stock one. A back to back drive from a stock 8 or 9 to the x would be the best thing to do to really compare them.
