How to convice the wife that we need an Evo X

Disconnect the pneumatic line that goes to the boost gauge. I did this today to make my WRX run like crap. It would idle like crap and had a check engine light come on after a while. So what's a guy to do? "I think we need a new car baby, this car has seen better days... lets go check out the new Evo Ten... just for fun."

So we drove to the dealership to see if they finally have any... and they have 3! I sold my Evo IX to this particular dealership a while back in anticipation of the X. The salesman that I have known for a while comes over to see me and he immediately lets us take the red X for a spin. This salesman has used me as his information source for the Evo's for a little while... he knows that most salesmen don't know jack when it comes to Evos/STis and the like. He knows that I'm not some average Joe looking for a joy ride. He has also been waiting to go for a spin in an Evo since he doesn't let just anybody take them out. So were off...

Well like others have said, it's very similar to the IX. Same steering quickness, same engine sound, and a similar level of taughtness with the suspension... but with a more quality ride that's faintly softer and more compliant. Around corners, it definately more composed and faster... you don't reach the limit of the tires as soon. They don't squeal as soon. This S-AYC buisness is working and I like it.

Engine response is really very similar to the IX. I would have to drive a stock IX again, but from what I noticed... it's definately faster than my modified WRX that has been custom tuned by Shiv. It definately has very little boost lag. Daddy like this new X very much. Even the wife liked it.

My plan is working perfectly. He he he he.

I also wanted to add some observations about the Evo X's improvements.

1. The cross members underneath the engine provide a load of clearance if you plan on upgrading the full exhaust. Rember on the Evo IX how you had to modify the crossmembers or just remove them all together if you upgraded to a full 3" downpipe? Well not now... there's all kinds of room. Instead of two crossmembers, they are integrated together and they have been shaped to allow more space for the exhaust.

2. The new Recaros are nice and snug. They did away with the plastic back and it's now covered with nice fabric. The back seats are more snug and softer as well. They envelop you like BMW M5, M3, and 335i back seats do.

3. The Rockford Fosgate sound system is nice... and if you want do drop some weight, just remove that huge *** subwoofer from the trunk... reduce weight and gain space back there, bonus!!!

4. This car does get the looks from other people in a positive way. Sportbikers, truckers, muscle car and sport compact drivers alike all were looking at this red GSR Evo X... and not just once, they were doing a few double takes. It's definately better looking in person.

I like it more than I thougt I would.

Does she not want it? If not you should show her that you guys can actually afford it, that would be a big factor. Spice up the fact that it's safer 'cuz of all the airbags & stiffer chassis. These things may not be important to you now, but if you guys are thinking about kids or have kids, this might persuade her. Down play your IX & tell her how terrible it was (even though you know it's not true).

She is tired of the types of cars that I've owned in the past and the associated mods that come with the territory. Every vehicle that I have had has been modified by me in some sort of way... from my WRX, M Coupe, trackbikes, trackbike hauler (a Titan), and Evo IX have been modified. I'm also a trackday junkie... she is a skydiving junkie... so we spend a lot of money instead of saving that money like we should. Tires, exhaust, trackday fees, and the cost of the upkeep add up and she is tired of it.

I tell her that she knew who she married a long time ago. I will work with her as much as I can, but I'll always be the sportscar/sportbike nut through and through... outside of my flying career. Living a boring life must suck... I'll never know and I refuse to. We save money, but not as much as we could if there wasn't a speed junkie in the house.

I hear ya and I understand.. but she's right. I just finished paying off my 2 sport cars and all the mods and I'm exhausted from it all.. I need a break by saving as much as I can. There comes a time that you have to crack down on your desires and do the right thing.. even if it's for a few years of just listening to everyone else buy the car you want!

If you jump now - you'll jump when the next new one comes out.. and it won't get better until you decide to discipline yourself.

I know she's right. The WRX is paid off and I just got a new shorblock under warranty right at 96,600 miles after I spun a rod bearing... so it's going to last a little longer. My bike is a monster for trackdays and I take every opportunity I can to get to the tracks when I can. Tires and track fees are not cheap. I'm also planning on getting a new X or even an E35 M5 some time after I spend some time in good 'ol Afghanistan starting mid March... so actually buying a new car will be about a year from now. I'm just buttering her up... you know... it's called "Strategery".

BTW Boostez, I grew up in Frisco... back when we had to drive to Plano to see a movie because we didn't have crap in our town. Things have changed I've heard.

I'd wait for the RS verison, the GSR seems bloated.

I didn't think so. It's almost perfect. I can always remove weight when I want to if I were to take a X to the tracks like VIR. If I bought an RS... if they even bring them here... then I would basicaclly be right back with what I had with the IX. I sold the IX because it didn't have some of the things that the X seems to offer. I'm also tossing around the idea of an E39 M5 just to give you an idea. I came from the BMW M car world before I got into the Evo world. We miss it.

Yeah... it was making her mad at the car all right. After I asked her if we could check out the Mitsubishi dealership for an X, she said "Okay, if it will put you in a better mood then I'm okay with looking at one too... " I was playing the part a little bit I admit. I even pulled over in a parking lot before we got to the dealership to "work" on the engine for a little while... I even pulled off and replaced the top mount intercooler. I'm such a bastard.

your dealership buddy drove it hard enough to make the AYC kick on in the street?
