1/8 mile test and tune day

Today was the first day open for test and tune, sunny, 65 degree weather. So i took my evo x to the track for a run, I have a k&n filter and ams mbc on it for now. With some smell from the clutch and some humping feeling(so I call it)on 3rd gear I got a 8.6 in the 1/8 at 80mph. A clutch is a must on the list if doing upgrades on the car. Im not sure if it was all clutch or not causing the fight in 3rd, but was annoying.

What do you mean "not causing the fight"?

It's official.. coming from two sources now it seems the X is hard to drag.

I tried 2 different launches, 1st run was to slip the clutch, 2nd run to dump. First run got the clutch smoking down the track and after that it was still having some smell on the 2nd run. So I dont know if the jerking in 3rd was from the clutch slipping or not on my 2nd run, but racing the car was easy and fun.

hmmm, never heard a problem like this before, was it not smooth in the gear or do you mean shifting into third???

The X clutch is probably just like the 8/9 clutches - garbage. You definitely should get an aftermarket clutch.

And I would say the clutch smell from the 2nd run came from the 1st run. It will smell until it cools off.

What was this jerking in 3rd? Describe it. That's not from the clutch smell.

I'm glad you had fun!!

Launching a stock clutch for a 2nd time after riding it won't help the clutch grab on the 3rd try?!.. haha

I waited a hour before the second run to let the clutch cool, and the shift to 3rd was smooth just the power wasn't smooth, hence jerky

With a mbc and filter, you should be putting an additional 50hp to the wheels. How hot was it outside? You are probably still running peg rich (especially if it's warm outside).

You know, most if not all new evo owners are new comer

only the few that traded in their 8/9 are now realizing it slow in the 0-60, how can new comer compared to the 8/9?....all they can say is the looks (i didnt know race cars are made to look nice inside and out) and feel....(again i didnt know race cars were made to feel nice)

BTW there's three owers that said it wasnt made for drag not two =D
