Changing the oil yourself

Well, I wanted to change my oil after the first 1000 miles (actually I'm at 1300). I jack it up and find that there is a shield under the engine.

To anyone who has changed their oil or to anyone who knows what to do.....what do I need to do to change my oil myself??

I would assume the first step would be to remove the undertray.

I guess I needed to be a little more clear with my question. I know how to change the oil and the filter. The question is, how do I remove the undertray. Is this an easy process, or should I just take it to the dealership? This was a serious question, so if you have something smarta** to say, please leave it on another thread.

You can take off the whole undertray, or you can take off just the section that reveals the oil filter/drain bolt.

You can see in this pic the portion that I am talkin about:

lol yea. What the heck is it with these people changing it at 1000 miles? I am at 1112 miles right now. I have 3500 about to go till an oil change, after checking the oil and seeing that it is in fantastic condition...why the heck would I change my oil that early? Why does this guy? Well I hope he gets his help...I didn't even know about that under tray either so this thread is helpful.

That's strange.. The undertray blocks the oil filter?? Normally OEM cars will have an opening so that you don't need to go through all that just to change the oil.. Wierd.. Good luck..

Stay on topic, please.

OP, Can you can see the filter access point in the undertray now?

When I got under there, yesterday, there were bolts that had the # 4 on them. It looked like I could take these off and that would get me access to everything. I just wanted to see if anyone had done this, before I take all of these bolts off, only to have it not work.

Thanks to those who offered help! I hated asking questions on the mustang forum I used to go to because of people posting smarta** remarks and talking down to a legitimate question. If that's what this forum is about, I quess I will find somewhere else to go.

Its not. I cleaned the thread up for you and removed the OT junk. Please enjoy your stay.

Using that access point below will get you to the filter so you can handily remove it.

Thanks! Over the weekend I will try removing the bolts to see where that gets me. It looks like it might be easier to just take it somewhere and get the oil changed

t8kdown- I was on I-675 within the last couple weeks and saw a X heading north on I-675 just after the Fairfield exit. Could it have been you? Let us know how the oil change goes.

I believe the part number is MZ690116. The X uses the same oil filter as the 9.
