With respect it really does look like a rush job. You said it was for a friend, but I think you could have done a better job with a bit more time/thought put into it. I'm not familiar with the new evolution, but I suggest running the wires through the firewall. I had a friend do the around-the-side wiring job and they wound up stripping from the friction against the plastic.

It looks like you now have two holes in the top of the dash...and that's a real shame. The piece on top of the steering column is a lot easier to replace (at least on the Evo IX) should you decide to get rid of the gauge. You could try moving it there but it looks like the damage has been done. On the IX you could run the wire directly into the back of the column...shows a little, but it's definitely not as bad as going straight across the dash, doesn't look like that's possible here.

Remember, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. Then again, I'm a X hater, do whatever you want to it

You have a nice new evo X.. Keep it clean..

He didn't want to mount a pillar because of the air bag.. fear of going off and doing a ton more harm than good.
As for "my X" its my friends.. the VIII's mine.. mostly stock

Believe me when I say this... the X is totally different.. and you can't just "drill" the firewall.. the wires running underneath the dash from the factory are a nightmare.. I'm still researching a better route as is

in my 8 . sitting in my car on the right side of the fire wall there were holes already made they just had a rubber plug, pop it out and presto there is a hole in the firewall for you to pass wires. what I did was make a hole in the rubber plug to pas the boost guage wire and still had the plug in its place.

There's one in almost the exact same place in the X.

For every one getting an EBC why are you getting a boost gage. I installed a greddy pro spec B II and it has a boost gage in it and i just up it on my Steering Wheel. And it works awesome.

Every boost gauge I have seen mounted in a X so far has been rigged or looks like crap. Why not wait until a decent mounting solution becomes available before rigging it up and bringing the car down a level. You really only need the gauge to set your boost; it's not like it fluctuates a lot especially if the weather is consistent.

I do give you credit for being one of the few to put the boost gauge in though.
