HID vs Non

Is there any difference in the headlight housing/lens etc in cars the are equipped with HIDs vs those that are not??

Does anyone know what low beam bulb each one uses?

HID's have projectors, and the halogen's use reflectors

HID equipped cars come with d2s, the non-hid is probably a 9006 like the 9's

You can buy a aftermarket kit. But you cannot retro a stock hid ballsat and bulb into a non hid housing.

I think the HIDs also have an autoleveling feature,, which is now mandatory on all new cars with HID's, they are there so you dont blind the person in front while going through bumps I guess.

depends on what route you go, just a HID kit is not expensive, but if you plan on retrofiting projectos, for example with a place like lightwerkz.net would charge you anywhere from $500-600 for the retrofit and another $100-300 for a HID kit. if you don't retrofit projectors and just use a HID kit in the stock halogen headlights then your light won't be as focused since these headlamps were never intended for use with HIDs

Exactly. Although just getting a HID kit will save you some $

I just upgraded my M3 to HIDs. Upgrading from reflectors to projectors and using the same d2S bulbs (with high quality balasts) that apparently the X uses cost about a thousand dolllars.

Given that the non-HID equipped X uses reflectors, the SSS package is nearly mandatory if you want HIDs.

So do the the halogen equipped cars have the headlight leveling switch on the dash or not??

It adjusts them if you have passengers or more weight in the car, causing them to point upwards.
