i dont own an evo X but i just picked up the new dsport and was flipping through and the test and tune this month is of the new evo

they gained 36whp for $650 figured i would throw this info out there to anyone interested

all they did was put a drop in K+N
did an oil change using Royal Purple Synthetic Oil
and put on a 3" performance exhaust and voila

 

 

So, I'm guessing the K&N and exhaust picked up 35awhp?

 

id rather do a boost controler and and ams intake...for $350! and get similar gains in whp

 

I believe it.....20hp from the exhaust and 15 from the intake. That is similar to what other tuners have been seeing....

 

Ya i read that artical... they gained like 10-14whp with the oil! crazy..

no way gaining 10-14whp with the oil---unless the oil it was replacing was canola oil

 

they replaced the stock oil with royal purple and they ahve dynos to prove it and i know dyno numbers can be taken with a grain of salt but its not like they are royal purple dyno-ing it they are a thrid party

and i didnt say i beleive all these numbers just trying to pass along the info to help others out

It's the mods... the oil is more like something they put in because of some sponsorship or other.

 

i'm not a NASCAR fan, but i do know in the old days of qualifying engines that only needed to last a few laps, they would use really thin oil that would give them a lot less friction and significantly more horsepower. problem was it wouldn't protect the engine and it was garbage after a few laps, and that's why they now make them run the same engine the whole weekend. for this reason, i don't trust oils that actually raise horsepower, because the likely trade-off is longevity...

 

I'd like to know what mods too. +1 for canola oil
