service engine soon light
ok so i bought my car 5 cars ago and as i drove off the lot the SES light came on and they told me it was just the gas cap (salesman told me this) so i reset it and it came back monday morning and i took it in and they said its a timing code that the car got stuck in retarting itself and all they did was clear the code. so it came back on this morning and im going to take it in tomorrow to see what it is. the only thing iv gone to the car was put a blow off valve on it VTA one and plugged up the hole where it used to go into the intake. could this be the problem? i put the BOV on saturday. need some help
First thing you did was put a VTA bov on a X? I'm gonna say that's your problem just so you take it off. Did you want that "pish" sound? I hope you say yes, because otherwise... WHY!?!?!?If that isn't the cause of the problem then officially: Welcome to Mitsubishi.
from what I have been reading and what others have told me in person, if you have a BOV and it is not on full recirc, you will have a lot of issues with the car stalling and idling badly. Car is designed for full recirc, an aftermarket CAI will give you the whoosh sound (from the stock BOV), and not mess up the car.

The car will not respond immediately to DRASTIC changes such as a VTA blow off valve when it is designed for a recirculating type.
It normally takes at least one cycle of driving around and shutting the car off before the car confirms something is wrong, and thus triggers the check engine light.
In short, swap the bov for the stocker, pull the neg terminal on the battery (in that order), replace the neg terminal of the battery, and see if it fixes your problem.

OK I found this thread and you may have the same problem as this guy. Something to do with retarded timing during start up. You might want to take it to the dealer.

I hope this code does not turn out to be the p0300 code of the EVO X

When the EVO was first released in the US in 2003. They were plauged with a SES light for p0300 which was random cylinder misfire.
The car is running rich as it is. When you add the BOV every time you let off the gas it is going to run extra rich since it is not recir. I have a bov that i can set to 50 - 50 and that hasnt giving me any problems. But ya i am sure it is the BOV causing this.
