Few General Questions before i buy
Few General Questions before i buy
How are the shift throws? Long, short, or notchy? IMO, the s2000 has the greatest gearbox ever, so how close is it to that.
Do the windows go all the way down in the back when rolled down?
How good is the AC and climate control system? AC is nice and cold?
How much room is there where the turbo is? if you were going to replace it, could you do it with hand tools from above or is it just too hard to get to?
How is the turning radius on this evo? I know others had it pretty bad.

AC and climate control rock!
Turbo is located behind the intake manifold, there's a few good pictures on the board if you use the search.
Turning radius is good, actually had the best out of the Sub and WV Car and driver review.

well this is my first car so i dont know how short throws are like. but my friend said it could be shorter. as for the knotchy shift feeling its not too bad at all.
oh yeah and the turning radius is ALOT better then the evo 9...

Same deal with the turning radius. I'd rate it somewhere between poor and fair, but if I recall that is a common trait for an AWD car. The fact that it beats the competition in this respect seems to back this up. The only time it's been an issue is when I'm trying to park, which has been hard getting used to.
So on those two points, at least, the X is going to be a step down from an S2000. Hell, the X makes the interior of the Si seem like a Mercedes in comparison, and that car cost $10k less. However, I'm confident that you will enjoy the car despite its shortcomings. It's certainly a blast to drive, and when you're in the market for a car like this that's usually all you care about.

Turning radius is heinous, what are you guys talking about? Its a typical Evo in that regard.
Shifter action compared to an S2000 is not even close, mainly because its notchy as crap. Honda shifters > all.

"The shift feel in the Si easily outclasses the X. If you're looking for a gearbox as wonderful to use as your S2000's, you're not going to find it here."
crap. i had two 07 Si's (coupe and sedan) and loved the shifter and interior. and the X is worse for 10k more? dang... ah well

Still, I knew what I was getting in to before I bought the X. I didn't buy it for a high-quality interior. It is what it is.

I plan on modding to ~ 350whp - 400whp and I honestly dont think the MR tranny is going to be able to handle a power increase at all. It just looks way too fragile to me. I think the weak TCSST tranny is why the EVO X is apparently detuned so much as to prevent grenading of the MR tranny...
Im going to miss my E55 though... 516lb ft torque is gonna be impossible to make in this car, lol.

All kidding aside, I have to agree with him. I took an S2000 for a test drive and that shifter made me realize how much room for improvement there is on the evo. It was precise, quick, and sinfully short. And I gotta second his other statement. A Civic Si is a lot of good car and engineering for the money, but best all-around? That's a stretch.
I was serious, but I guess I probably should have qualified it with "for the price", which I will do now.
Certainly there are better, but more expensive, all-around cars. I still love the Si, though. It's cheap, comfortable... docile in traffic, but doesn't complain when step on it... and reasonably quick considering the price.

I tried to force myself to buy one before I got my IX because they are so darn affordable, but I just couldn't do it, especially after a really boring test drive on a nice curvy road. I saw it as a downgrade from my Evo VIII in just about everything I could think of except ride quality over bumps.
I know the K block is great, and have a CR-V on the other side of my garage, but the Si doesn't light any performance car fires under me at all.
it is a fun car that can be good as a DD... I love the Si.... its got a great gearbox and the K series engine is modable , high revving and sound great... a LSD makes it handle beterre than the RSX-S... the interior is good quality and the sedan has good room and safety for my youngster
Since you're asking about space in the engine compartment, I'm assuming you want to mod it? Thus, while I can't answer your questions, these two threads might help if you have any other questions about the engines. You can probably find your other answers by searching, too.

I think this is the first thread I've seen someone openly admit to liking a Civic, haha!
