Air Filter Mod - Negative or Positive?

http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/sho...ed=1#post51786

This guys dyno shows that after the cone his power significantly dropped. It is unknown though, if its just the ECU holding back as it is still learning. I also do not know if he disconnected and then reconnected the battery.

I e-mailed K&N about their Evo air filter for the X, but they said it was not out yet. I read an article ( I can't remember the magazine) that said they got a dyno increase of 15-25hp for the K&N air filter! I want to try this when they come out. By the way is the X air filter different than the IX?

with the stock maf housing, an inverted filter (filter caves in at the top) and after the factory reflash you lose hp... idk why but it does.... however some guy got the inverted filter before the reflash and it added i think 10 whp?...but either way just go with a flat top filter unless you get an intake that comes with an maf housing.

Couple of Questions..
Does disconnecting and reconnecting the battery reset the factory reflash I got?

What does a flat top cone filter look like?

I got the red one from Autozone...

dont bother... some tuner on here did some major testing and found after the flash the filters with the concave top will lose hp wether you reset the ecu or not....
find a K&N filter!

well im assuming you got the specture filter...(i have the same kind) if you have the reflash...go back to stock for now...a drop in filter or a flat top filter will make power....if you do not have the reflash i think you are making around 10 whp? anyway a flat top filter or a drop in filter is best now... there are some tuners that have made power with an inverted filter...but that was before the reflash and they had a custom maf housing...so i cant really say for sure if an inverted filter is bad.

Ok thanks...I just wasted teh moneys =(
So resetting the ECU doesn't take away the factory reflash?
Should I just go buy a Flat top filter made from K N ?

no reseting the ecu does not take away the reflash
and as long as its not a inverted cone filter it should make power... but be aware this is with the stock maf housing... i cant really say for sure if an inverted cone filter is bad with a different maf housing...
anyway gst did the reserch and im just letting you know what i learned from that...if you want to read more about it...https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=341608

I used a self modded cone at first and definitely lost power. It has something to do with velocity stacks IIRC. If you want a filter, go with one from a reputable company like Buschur or AMS. They dyno test their products so you know you are getting something that generates horsepower, not hype.

I have been using a Works drop in with good results if you want something like that.

Got the WORKS drop-in filter on mine. Haven't dyno'd it yet but will do in the near future.
