I don't know if it's water cooled or not, but regardless, it still needs to lubricate the bearings so there would be oil in there in direct contact with the bearings (see wikipedia quote from above).

If you drive easy (<3k rpms) for a few minutes before you park, you can just shut it off. After tracking, auto-x, hard drive, a long highway stint, let the car idle for a few minutes.

Ouch

I aotox'd my sweet new EvoX right after break in, when I finished my last run, I drove it calmly to a parking spot (20 seconds) and shut it off. 1 1/2 hours later I got in and tried to start it... 20 seconds of cranking later it sputtered to life. No CEL, seems to run fine, no noticable decrease in turbo power, but lots of stains on the seats from my tears due to feeling like a moron for not letting it idle after racing.. This is my first turbo and I didn't even think of letting it idle after running hard. Did I damage my turbo? How can I tell if I did? Could the extra cranking time to start it be just from heat evaporating the fuel in the injectors, or the lines? My *** is still sore from me kicking it for the last 2 weeks, opinions?

20 secs is way too short i think. Im pretty sure someone here will tell u after AUTO-X, you will prolly have to let it cool for like couple of mins.

porsche is the same way. they dont mention a cool down really either.
Mabye Porsche and Mitsu are so confident about their turbo's, they don't care if you let it cool or not because they know that their turbo's are indestructible.

Yes, your turbo is damaged beyond repair. Quick, get all your stuff out the car and drive it to the nearest Dodge dealership to trade in. Of course you didn't damage your turbo. One hard run and shut down hot and you think the car will be damaged for ever?

yeah do it like every day and you won't have much turbo responsiveness after a while.

these are purposely built cars they don't need to be babied

evo owners are proving to be a different breed.....however i am an evo owner

Man i have a Greddy turbo timer, i set it at 1 min and forget it lol. And the turbo timer actually can tell if the car needs more second and will actually add sec as needed. If you do get a turbo timer just remember to set you E- BREAK. I forgot one time and my car went rolling lol. OPS
