Having said that, the placement of those vortex generators bother me. The purpose of VGs is to force seperation of the boundary layer, which usually occurs upstream of the downward slope from the roofline to the back windshield. The ones in the above picture seem to be placed along the slope, rather than before it, which i feel is a bit too late. Now i havent seen any streamline data for the X to know for sure, but i feel that these VGs are too far downstream and should be moved up, are optimized for very low speeds (20-30 mph), or are purely there for aesthetics. As i stated before, im pretty sure its the latter.

Ummm... not quite ... the purpose of a vortex generator is to prevent separation of the airflow from a surface by scrubbing off the boundary layer. Wikipedia does well enough on this one that I won't go further. Nothing that looks like the picture does anything but look cool and increase drag.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought it was one of those things you place in your intake housing to create a vortex, lol. I was wondering why you all wanted one. Now I see what the deal is.
