27.4 MPG on the interstate!
That's awesome. Now I can simply avoid the dealer altogether.
Seeing this good gas mileage sounds promising...if I can keep my foot out of it. I just recently returned from back to back weekend trips of about 700 miles round trip each time. The first time was up hill (3000 ft elevation change) and the best I could get out of it was 21.3mpg, that was with windows up and AC about half of the time. Returning that trip downhill with AC the entire time I managed to pull 22mpg. This was cruising at about 75-80 the entire way and with the little bit of city driving inbetween to get to the highway I averaged 69mph according to the trip computer. (Test pipe was the only mod)
Last weekend got completely hosed in traffic from the holiday and Austin rush our and the BEST I got was 18.1mpg...granted I was going about 80 when it was open but the rest of the time I was in stop and go traffic or cruising at about 60 when I wasn't in a major city on the way down. (intake & test pipe) Coming back last night I got 20.6mpg as the best and the average speed was 70mph according to the trip computer but that was only brought down from city driving to the highway and stops for food/gas. I was crusing about 80 with a few sprints to well above that to lessen the boredom. This was with windows down about half the way home and then AC on the rest of the way.
Neither of these trips was I trying to get the best mileage by any means but just sharing how my mileage has been going roughly based on my speed/ac/windows up or down. The car needs a tune desperately...~Trent

I know intake / exhaust can increase gas mileage as well as a tune... but what else?
How about adding things like an intercooler and piping, or intake piping? Things that smooth out air flow / help engine not work as hard... will that help as well?

correct, as long as your not having your right foot lead the way.
i took a ride today to see a friend, the drive is around 38 miles round trip and about 20% city 80 % highway. i reset the computer to see what i could get. off course i drove normal and as soon as i hit the highway i had cruise set to 60 mph. the car is bone stock with no tune or nothing. this is what i got:

i think it is pretty good for no tune
.
the car has 2600 mile on it so far and i noticed that the mpg got better a little than when the car was brand new.

I too believe my cars MPG jumped after I got some more mileage.. I was averaging about 18.2ish MPG New....Now its like 27-29mpg on a 70%highway drive.
100%city I get 24-25 MPG.
Once I get an intake/exhaust I think 30's is possible.

i dont have an evo X, but i remember seeing from top gear that setting the cruise control actually lowers you MPGs, and also a few years back on a trip from LA to Utah my parents set the cruise control and also noticed that MPGs went down...are the cruise controls more efficient now? anyone get something higher without the cruise control???
What speeds are you driving to get these mpg's? I'd assume 5th gear and like 55mph for that kind of highway mpg and I have absolutely no clue how you're getting 24-25mpg in the city unless it's city with almost no stops just slower speed limits. Not saying it's impossible...just saying must be going about as slow as a geo metro to get 25mpg in the city with this car...even if it was all down hill with a 30mph tail wind...

maybe the cruise control has become more efficient, especially for my sake cuz i dirve the X.
I'm still on the first tank of gas, and on my way to work yesterday I was up to 21mpg before the last 1/2 mile when I wrung it out a bit
. Today I was up to 23.9 before the last bit when it went down to 23.0 (as I made record time in the last mile
).
Of course, it is boring as heck to drive for mpg, but there's nowhere to go in traffic anyway!. My drive is about 3 miles on surface streets, 5 miles 60-65 on the highway, then 5-6 miles in bumper to bumper on the highway, then 1 mile surface streets.
I just try and leave a sufficient gap ahead of me so I can coast a lot more, and I only try and accellerate on flat or downhills (and coast uphill).

that is a good Milage for sure!
I could never get that one in my previous evo's for sure.
I'm still waiting on exhaust and intake option, what i really like. Then i will get the reflash too, from Ivey!
I cant wait...
I hope i will get a better milage too.

I was talking to Darryl at Ultimate Racing recently about fuel economy. I have noticed an improvement since my EcuTeK tune at Dyno4mance, but I wanted to see how good I could do.
With my wife and daughter in the car, we went to see a friend nearly 40 miles from my house. 70% was highway, 30% was city. I didn't go into boost once to attain this, and ran the A/C only when we started to get warm. I set the cruise at 71mph on the Interstate and drove really gently through town, taking advantage of coasting to lights, down hills, etc. Anyway, I was pretty impressed with the number.
When the car was stock and we came cross country, the best we could manage was 22.8mpg on the way back in the best sections. The tune, full exhaust, and my driving with the intention of saving fuel have all helped. It wasn't too long ago when gas was around $2.75 a gallon; now its $4.20 in the southeast! It sucks.
Anyway, I just thought I'd report.

22-24 mpg is about the best you'll get out of the stock car and tune.
