27.4 MPG on the interstate!
27.4 MPG on the interstate!
I was talking to Darryl at Ultimate Racing recently about fuel economy. I have noticed an improvement since my EcuTeK tune at Dyno4mance, but I wanted to see how good I could do.
With my wife and daughter in the car, we went to see a friend nearly 40 miles from my house. 70% was highway, 30% was city. I didn't go into boost once to attain this, and ran the A/C only when we started to get warm. I set the cruise at 71mph on the Interstate and drove really gently through town, taking advantage of coasting to lights, down hills, etc. Anyway, I was pretty impressed with the number.
When the car was stock and we came cross country, the best we could manage was 22.8mpg on the way back in the best sections. The tune, full exhaust, and my driving with the intention of saving fuel have all helped. It wasn't too long ago when gas was around $2.75 a gallon; now its $4.20 in the southeast! It sucks.
Anyway, I just thought I'd report.

I made a sequence of about 4 220 mile trips over the past few weeks on a completely stock X, both with and without the factory reflash. This was nearly 100% highway miles. No A/C. Trip computer was reset in all cases while sitting in my driveway, and checked once in the driveway of the destination. The same route was taken for each case.
Before the reflash, I got 24.9 and 24.7mpg with the cruise set on 70mph for the majority of the trip.
After the reflash I got 23.8 and 24.2mpg at the same speed.
So my mpg may have actually gone down slightly after I got the reflash. I should have noted the weather conditions for each run, but I didn't.
Noize's 27.4 at the same speed is pretty impressive.

I do 27mpg highway stock and around 22 city. Obviously give or take a few mpg depending on how rowdy im feeling, and I'm typically feeling rowdy. I cruise at a touch over 70 usually. Thats on the way to work tho, downhill. Going uphill I only manage like 24.5ish
You can choose to use the factory reflash starter maps at all EcuTeK dealers in the US at no add'l charge. They can build your tune on top of that. That way, you don't have to go to the dealer and answer a bunch of questions to get the factory reflash.
Hypermiling for the win. Thanks Darryl: http://www.hypermiling.com/car-mpg.html

You're right, gas is just rape right now.
