Undecided between E46 M3 and Evo X MR [merge]
Both times that I bought Evo's (VIII and X) I could have bought a new M3, RS4, 911, etc. instead but went with the Evo because it has the best feedback and is more of a pure driver's car. I have owned numerous 911's, a Boxster, M Coupe, Elise, etc. and am quite happy with my Evo X. Also, I should probably note that I don't buy my cars to modify - I buy them to drive. "Class" doesn't enter into my car-buying equation though, so for those who it does the BMW name might help sway them.

It sounds like you care about drag racing. An E46 M3 is not going to shine in that.
On topic, I would not take an E46 M3 over my X, becasue my X is a new car, and an E46 M3 would be older, higher mileage, etc. I wouldn't ever consider an M3 with an SMG. I drove an E46 M3 when I was looking at 335Is, and I liked the E90 335i lots more.
To me, it would go like this: E90/E92 M3 >>>>>> E90/E92 335i > X > E46 M3.
Same year to same year, an M3 is just in a higher league. Sadly, you pay for that. A new M3 also costs nearly double what an Evo X does.
The newest Car & Driver just picked the E92 M3 over a Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 turbo. That's pretty insane stuff.

an m3 is 10x better looking.faster out of the box.wayyyy nicer interior.way better craftsmenship.Think about this if you think the x is fast with a stock turbo engine,imagine a car that is already faster then adding a turbo to that.It is very expensive to upgrade and maintain an m3,but they are sooo sick.Some one said they sound like ****...that is a lie with an exhaust they sound like a ****in supercar.Not to mention all the wayyyy better wheel coices you have for an m over the evo which everyone uses the same effin wheels, and like i said they look soooo much better the paint quality is way better and your gonna get better service from the dealer,they are already proven and the x is brand new and already a bunch of **** is going wrong,get the m3!!!!
I seen someone on here did a baseline dyno with their evo x and only got 215whp. I thought these things put 291 at the fly. Shouldnt that be alil more than 215 at the wheels
Get the X you'll love it and you won't have to do much to get down to low 12s with a few mods + tuning. If you search in this forum there are already X in the 11s. It's only a matter of time before someone gets their X pushing 500+hp.
the M3 is a very very good car, just like the X.
i would get a M3, if i need something for DD. But on track the X, i think is cheaper to maintain and race . So i do not prefer the M3 over the X.

Have you owned the car before? They sound like crap. To get them to sound good you need a 1k muffler and 300 rasp eliminator..and even with those they still dont sound good.

And they are just as fast stock as the X is and they respond terribly to mods. You need a 15k turbo kit to go fast.

On Topic= New M3>EVO X>Previous M3. This would be my order of things its just an opinion though. My wife hates the EVO though and says Im to old for it. Im 31yrs. New M3 is in a whole different class of car and shouldnt really be compared to EVOs. Yes, U can make an EVO very fast, but no matter what you do to it, it will never be as classy as the BMW.
