Undecided between E46 M3 and Evo X MR [merge]
Since I currently own both the driving experience is different but no way would I sell the S2000. The Evo is a big car and may be faster on a track but it still does not have the ultimate fun factor of the S
They compliment each other and until I see something different I will still refer to the Evo as my "winter beater"
I personally am shopping for an AP1 S2000 to compliment the Evo X. I loved the one I drove (Ironically the same day I picked up my old VIII) and really want a 'vert.
Any hints for shopping used?
DUDE, i KNOW HOW TO TYPE AND KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH!!!! Try to cook, talk on the phone, type , and watch tv @ the same time! There r more shows than one on best motoring that s2000 gets *** kick by nissan 350z, and civic type-r!!!
and unless you have been in an s2000 with coilovers and race tires, then dont speak, because it is the closet thing you will experience to a real race car, in terms of handling.
Im not talking out my ***. Im speaking from experience. Ive owned multiple evos, multiple s2000s.
both are sick cars, in DIFFERENT ways.
the evo will never FEEL as racey as an s2000 or as raw.
doesnt mean it is a better car...just means its different.
8900 redline 2.0L
crappy stereo, plastic rear window, tops tend to have tears in them used
very unforgiving at the limit, since the rear is stiffer than the front
weighs about 2810
02-03 (ap1) is still very raw, but refined
8900 redline
added tweeters to stereo, glass rear window with defrost, better tranny and top
softer rear, a little more forgiving at limit
weighs about 2850
04-05 (ap2) feels less raw, but its not really, much more refined
8100 redline 2.2L, shorter gears 1-4, longer gears 5-6
improved looks to bumpers, headlights and tails and interior
better tranny
stiffer front, softer rear, and upgraded to 17 inch wheels
more forgiving at limit
tend to dyno about 10whp more than ap1 and has more midrange torque
weighs about 2880
06-08 (ap2) drive-by wire
8100 redline, reworked intake system that makes about 5whp more on dyno
different wheels
even stiffer front
improvements on interior
weighs about 2890
08 CR (ap2)
tuned suspension
large wing, lip and no soft top
comes with hard top
drive-by wire
new interior that is more racey
some think its ugly and overpriced
ac and stereo is optional
ive owned an 01 and an 05. Overall i like the 05 much more.
my 05 dynoed 247whp with mods
my 01 dynoed 232whp with mods
the 05 is more stable and easier to drive, but still feels just as raw if you swap out a few things (clutch slave cylinder to ap1, coilovers, exhaust)
the 05 looks much nicer in my opinion
the 01 8900 redline is kind of cool and the 01 has slightly more mods available, but both cars have over 100k worth of mods avail with ease
i also had issues with the 01 soft top ripping and rear plastic window cracking.
the 00-01 also has more small issues, like coil packs and some other small things.
the 00-01 is strictly 100% a summer car
the 02-03 is like 95% summer
the 04-05 is like 90% summer
the 06-08 is like 75% summer
they get a little more DD friendly each year. If you winter drive an 00-01, you are not bright. The HID lights in 00-01 are bad in snow, real bad, they have short cut off and make it impossible to see, not to mention the plastic window, ****ty top, stiff rear, etc etc etc...
the 06-08 has a form of traction control and is also safer for small kids, since it has air bag sensors
if you drive the s2000 in winter (not recommended), 4 snow tires is REQUIRED and i recommend weighing the back down a tad
ok, ive said too much, pm me if you want to know more about the s2000

my buddy just picked up a e46 m3 and i just picked up an evo x.
we both have different taste and mentality. so it is all depends on what you like.
for exterior look, i personally think evo looks much modern and more aggressive looking then e46.. but e46 indeed looks more luxurious.
m3 feels better and slightly faster on straight a way when they are both stock.
but it will get real expensive if you want to go faster than slightly modded evos.
and evo definately handles better.
if you decide to get a m3, u prolly want to get one w/ warranty.. it is very expensive when things go bad on your Bimmer.
