BEWARE: Smart Key

Here's how it goes. I'm out at my friends house earlier, now its time to leave. I get up to my car put my hand on the handle and nothing happens. So I figure ok odd. I unlock pushing the button. I then try to start just like any other start. Display says Key Missing. Doesn't even turn in the ignition. Then I put the fail-safe key in it turns but does not start. So i'm going like "wtf is going on here". I remove the battery cable, that doesn't help either. Then I call my mom who brings my spare to me. Thank God that one worked! I have no idea what happened to the key fob. So this is just a heads up about this. It most likely is a one time thing, but I just wanted to share my experince.

I think from reading the manual (ya I know) that you have to put the fob onto the backup key since it has an immobilizer and the backup key doesn't have the immobilizer, the fob does.

K.I.S.S. - I didn't even have to pay extra for regular keys.

I got HP KARR car alarm/ key FOD--try getting one of those. Customer service is so cool when a key FOD acts up.

just saying...but did you happen to change the battery in the fob and see if it worked then? from my understanding the evo works on an active rfid setup instead of passive

I had the same thing happen to me. All you have to do is turn your steering wheel as far left or right and then turn the ignition switch and it should work. This is just like other cars when the steering wheel gets locked. It to my friend and I about 20 min. to figure this out. It has not happened since.

We tried that as well and it didn't work for us. So we tried everything else until we came up with the sullution. Which is posted above.
