Makes much sense. I'll have to try this if I ever get "immobilized" by the fast key.

lol, yeah if you look on that backup key near the top it depicts it being inserted backwards onto the fob.

the manual key only works if you have the remote connected to the back of it, supposedly.

I've had 2 keys fail on me as well

We have had no issues with our 2007 Outlander XLS and I believe they were the first Mitsubishi's to get Fast Key.

The keys batteries are only good for one year and if you leave the FOB in the car alot or around other eletronic devices alot it will wear the battery down even faster.

Keep it away from your cell phone....I heard the cell phone can erase your programming just like Nissan use to have until the remotes were updated...

My dealer told me make sure you insert key into slot on smart key if trying to start with key, or it wont start. Like it said in the book.

I had on fast key fail about 3 weeks ago and havent had time to go to the dealer, I switched to my back up fast key and about 3 days ago it quit working as well.....Called the dealer and they said that can reprogram the keys, but if they are failing after 3 months reprogramming them isnt gonna help for to long.....WTF?!?!?
