F.A.S.T Key problem

Hey everyone, Just thought I should let you all know about a recent problem I had with the F.A.S.t Key system. I was at a friend's house and my F.A.S.T Key just stopped working on me. I immediately used the manual key to open the doors. Guess what, the Panic system started going off. I was unable to get it to shut up, but it stopped by itself in about 4-5 minutes. I then tried to start the car with the manual key and it wouldn't (guessing the immobilizer).

Finally, I had to get Mitsu Roadside Assistance to get it towed to the nearest dealership. The delaership calls me and tells me that there is a known issue with the original keys that makes them go crazy when placed close to a cellphone or a magnetic key of some sort for a certain period of time. I was also told that there is a new part that replaces the old one t oavoid this issue. I am now about to send the second key to the dealership so they can program the new ones for the car. Apparently they need both keys as per the manual.

The sad thing is that the manual key is designed to work only if the electronic one is working, which is kinda pointless. But hopefully, this wont happen to anyone else or even if it does, it doesn't happen over the weekend like it did in my case.

With the manual key, did you take the metal key out and flip it around and insert the back end of the key back into the fab and they try to start the car? That's how it had to work in mine even after the fab was 'deactivated'

^Yeah, I'm guessing that he didn't know that. It mentions it somewhere in the manual I think, but sadly dealers don't know **** about the cars that they sell or about cars in general for that matter. I think it's funny as hell when a service manager tries to tell me what's what about mechanical stuff on my car when I've forgotten more stuff than he's ever learned. To the OP, sorry this happened but next time you have to put the key fob up next to the key when trying to start the car the old fashioned way. It's a security failsafe and the dealer should've told you that. Could've saved you the trouble of having to get a tow truck but oh well.

Yeah if you look at the actual metal key, it has the instructions right on it to insert back into the keyfob.

Happens to me, mostly because i have something in my pocket preventing the key from being recognized by the car.

^yeah this happens to me too so i just press the remote to open the door.

i am just curious to know what is involved in starting your car when the fob doesnt work like what the OP stated, i know a couple of post here mentioned what to do but i am just not following.

so you take out the metal key to open the door and then insert the metal key back onto the fob and start your car? or do you also use the metal key to manually start your car? so when do you return the metal key back onto the fob, once the car starts?

Pull out the metal key, reverse it and insert it back in the key fob. Start the car and you're good to go.

Here is how it should look. Key must be in the fob to start the car manually.

happened to me once when my key was in the same pocket with my cell phone. I waited a minute or two and it worked and ever since then, my keys stay in a pocket by itself.

Damn!! I dint know that and did not find it in the manual either. Probably should've looked better. I even spoke to a Mitsubishi technician at a nearby showroom and he dint mention anything about it. Ah well, **** happens !!!! Cant help but feel dumb at the moment.

My iPod/cell phone being in the same pocket as my key tends to prevent the key from working some times.

If it doesn't work I just repeatedly take my hand off the handle and try again.

Yeah, i kept the key by itself for about an hour while i was trying. I guess the damage was already done. Although, in my case, i am guessing it was the magnetic key that i have in my keychain for my apartment building.
