Welcome, fellow PB Edmontonian.
I love my car, and have nothing but a grin every time I drive it.
As Talon said, visit mitsunation to check in with some other Alberta people!

It saves a few grand, but knowing mitsubishi, chances are they wouldn't honor the warranty. With a tranny that has to be replaced if broken, thats a big bill.
I havent crunched the numbers for a GSR but it would seem like thats a way better deal if imported (assuming you get it at a good price).
Not trying to start an argument with you or anything, but you have to pay GST and gas tax on a car in Canada, so what numbers are you comparing?
The "other fees and whatnot" add up to a couple of hundred bucks. So, take a $37,000 price tag in the US. (1/2 way between MSRP and Invoice) (Canadian Dollar was actually above par yesterday) Add 6.1% duty ($2380) + the "fees and whatnot" for a before tax total of $40k. Now, look at the MSRP in Canada of $47,500. $7500 + tax = $8500! That's more than a "couple grand.
God forbid, the tranny eve explode, then it would have to be towed to the US, worst case scenario. That wouldn't be cheap, but also wouldn't be $8500.

Total of: $44542 (with taxes off of the US price, not the canadian value - I'm too lazy to recalculate all that now) + all the aggro you went through with the paperwork, customs, letters from the manufacturer proving all recalls have been done on the car etc... Now all of a sudden that $47500 in Canada doesnt seem like all that bad a deal, especially if the salesman gets you a deal below MSRP.
I've imported a used US car into Ontario - it sucked.

$47,500 + $1500 for Frt. PDI... + tax still equals $55,370! So, it's still $11,000!!!
And, you probably paid book value on a used car, but on new you pay tax on what you actually paid, not the Cdn MSRP.
Meanwhile, check out this site and the whole argument is moot anyway.

There's no warranty coverage for Mitsu owners who take their car from the US to Canada.
