Not an owner yet. My Red MR is due end of July /sigh

I've driven several evolutions from the 1 to the 7 and I test drove the GSR.

Really excited about the MR if it ever arrives :/

Waiting for my RR MR July as well I test drove a GSR back in April before I ordered the car and that was enough to sell me and did not need another Subaru in the family ! I also live five minutes from Mitsu HQ so see a lot of MR's but can't get a drive !!

Welcome, fellow PB Edmontonian.

I love my car, and have nothing but a grin every time I drive it.

As Talon said, visit mitsunation to check in with some other Alberta people!

I bet Edmonton has the highest number of Evo's per capita. Maybe except where South Coast Mitsu is...

Have you guys seen this? The new list should be updated within 2 weeks.

The Government of Canada has amended the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (MVSR) to harmonize the Canadian bumper standard for passenger cars with similar safety standards from the United States and Europe.

Looks like there will be a market for USDM rear X bumpers / bumper supports in Canada :P

Ive already started pricing out how much it would cost to import an X. If the evo was manufactured in the states then it would be crazy cheap to import it. As it stands though any car manufactured in Japan has a 6.1% duty on it. The worst part is that they calculate the GST after the duty and "gas guzzler fee" get added on. I worked it out on an MR "assuming" I pay 38K US(about 40k CAD) out the door which is wishful thinking. With duty, gas tax, and GST it works out to at least 5k more right there, not including all the other fees and what not.

It saves a few grand, but knowing mitsubishi, chances are they wouldn't honor the warranty. With a tranny that has to be replaced if broken, thats a big bill.

I havent crunched the numbers for a GSR but it would seem like thats a way better deal if imported (assuming you get it at a good price).

Not trying to start an argument with you or anything, but you have to pay GST and gas tax on a car in Canada, so what numbers are you comparing?

The "other fees and whatnot" add up to a couple of hundred bucks. So, take a $37,000 price tag in the US. (1/2 way between MSRP and Invoice) (Canadian Dollar was actually above par yesterday) Add 6.1% duty ($2380) + the "fees and whatnot" for a before tax total of $40k. Now, look at the MSRP in Canada of $47,500. $7500 + tax = $8500! That's more than a "couple grand.

God forbid, the tranny eve explode, then it would have to be towed to the US, worst case scenario. That wouldn't be cheap, but also wouldn't be $8500.

You need to pay GST at the border as well (on the CANADIAN VALUE, not what you paid in the US), and in Ontario anyway, once you register the car with DMV you pay the PST as well (again, on the value of the Canadian car). SO, if you live in Ontario you are looking at $37000 + 6.1% ($2257) + 6% GST (2200) + 8% PST (2960) + safety and inspection ($50) + licensing fee's (I believe $75).

Total of: $44542 (with taxes off of the US price, not the canadian value - I'm too lazy to recalculate all that now) + all the aggro you went through with the paperwork, customs, letters from the manufacturer proving all recalls have been done on the car etc... Now all of a sudden that $47500 in Canada doesnt seem like all that bad a deal, especially if the salesman gets you a deal below MSRP.

I've imported a used US car into Ontario - it sucked.

$47,500 + $1500 for Frt. PDI... + tax still equals $55,370! So, it's still $11,000!!!

And, you probably paid book value on a used car, but on new you pay tax on what you actually paid, not the Cdn MSRP.

Meanwhile, check out this site and the whole argument is moot anyway.

There's no warranty coverage for Mitsu owners who take their car from the US to Canada.
